Deborah this is a very informative article -thanks. I researched it myself but it is great that you include the video clips! It makes it so much easier to explain to others. In our little town we have people who are very mesmerized by Rob Rufus. Do you have info on him? He endorsed the `Blank Bible`. Not sure what that means. It seems he is connected to the Toronto `blessings`. The City Church International Hong Kong and the `revival` there is his claim to fame.

I think he is South African.

If all you can give me is head knowledge from the Bible then don’t come near me – I don’t want to be associated with you. You have a form of godliness but you deny the power”.

  19. dmc says:

the god of this world can definitely masquerade as the Holy Ghost, I had this actually happen to me, then I heard a voice say “you submitted to the wrong spirit”. I found out much later that it was actually God who told me I submitted to the wrong spirit. But I can tell you this is one of satan’s masterpieces, and in fact is the masterpiece of all his deceptions. For you who don’t know the Holy Ghost you may fall for this other spirit the Bible talks about. The experience is like getting a counterfeit 100 dollar bill, if you have never seen a real one you would swear that the counterfeit is the real one. It was years later when God led me to genuine godly repentance did I see for the first time the difference. It was a real good counterfeit, and because I did not know God’s spirit at the time I fell for another spirit imitating the genuine.

Read this What did YOU think Revival meant? This article is written by a friend of Angus Buchan.

  25. Martin Horan says:

I remained in a “Christian” cult for a bit over twenty years. The reason for that was simple. I was cured of a severe mental illness brought on by the use of the hallucinogen LSD soon after being baptised in the cult. I’d been in that condition for about eight years prior to the baptism.
I was totally healed for two years, also of visual kinds of things like auras and flashes that the LSD also caused, and was convinced it was of God. I was also very joyful over that period. The cult believed it was the only true church and because of the healing(S) I believed it too.
Anyway, two years later, the healing(s) left me and I was back in the mental problems and the same visual ones returned too.
I thought God had left me and that I’d lost His Holy Spirit.
After two years, the problems abated. To this day I have the visual effects, sometimes strong, sometimes weak. When I slip spirtually, I do get the mental problems. I’ve had them about three times over the last 15 years. But when they’ve returned I’ve been in them for about 18 months when they’ve happened and it is absolute hell.
Other than the fact that the Bible tells us Satan can do powerful miracles, as will be evident when anti-Christ comes to power, I am convinced of it.
I’m not sure if God allowed Satan to heal me because it fitted in with his plan for my life or because of His mercy He allowed Satan to do it or if God did it Himself and my own backsliding gave Satan power over me.
Anyway, I think it foolish for people to believe that even if we do see healings it is always from God. I’m sure most of the claims of such things are bogus.
Deborah, above, sums it up: There are no genuine revivals in the last days.
I sometimes wish I could know for definite. Perhaps I need to pray more for an answer.

  26. I write a blog…in this blog I write article pertaining to the occult and other similar subject which correspond to the end days and prophecy. I came across this site while doing research for an article.
I am NOT surprise when I see the occult creeping into the churches because this is told in prophecy throughout the Bible. But the various means through which it is interpreted in the different churches does surprise me!
This whole “FIRE SERPENT” is nothing but the KUNDALINI! Wow! People need to wake up and come out of the churches which are teaching such GARBAGE! The cult of the Fire Serpent were followers of Satan, and namely the fallen angels…all together.
I don’t profess to ANY religion, but that of being a Believer of GOD and the Holy Bible.
The whole ‘As Above, So Below’ process is taking over the world. Supernatural events and possessions are becoming the norm. The New Age philosophy of the Ascended Masters and Freemasonry go hand in hand into the mind control we see happening around us.
UFO’S are nothing but demons incognito..and just as Jesus Christ, the One and Only…told us…we will be dismissed as crazy. We will be denied and cast out of society. The persecution happens daily around the world and in the United States.
Reelecting Obama has certified that we are doomed. He does not believe in GOD, and his actions prove it. FEMA here we come. It’s but matter of time now.

  28. Robbie says:

    Gys

That makes it a few of us angry.
Probleem is, blindes lei die blindes en beide val in die put.

  29. Carolyn says:

Martin, why do we need special revivals and movements anyways? We’ve had these and they lead to group think and hero worship. We just need good old fashioned preaching the word in season and out of season, bearing our weaknesses, walking our individual walk with the Lord and loving and communicating with other believers. This is how the Spirit leads.

I have literally lived and watched all these revivals/awakenings as they unfolded. I had a ringside seat having been raised in the charismatic scene. I watched as Kathryn Khulman strode across the stage and spoke with her “special anointing”, I watched as Rodney Howard Browne gave God his ultimatum, that something had to happen in his life and ministry or else…I watched as the Toronto Blessing brought their impartation into our churches and I’ve watched as the occult has settled itself into the midst of mainline churches through every wind of teaching.

I’m convinced that the things we run after in revivals…power, prestige, strange esoteric teachings, supernatural manifestations in drunken environments, weird phenomenon, signs, wonders and miracles are the things that Christ warned us not to be a part of.

Considering who is calling himself Jesus today (such as Alan John Miller, Sananda of Siberia or Meitraya) and how many followers are being duped by their demon inspired superpowers and ecstatic emotional experiences and considering the deceptions that are sweeping in by the cunning and craftiness of these cult leaders, it sobers us up to the fact that we need to do things on God’s terms and not our own. What is it he has said in his word? Meditate on it day and night.

    Micah 6:8
He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

    2 John 1:9
Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.

  30. David says:

    Hi Deb
What’s your insite to Pete Cabrera Jr…..

  31. David,

Pete Cabrera is a false teacher who uses the occult to heal people. Nowhere in the entire Bible are we told to pray over an object like a plastic spoon in the Name of Jesus and give it to a person who needs healing.

  32. Andre says:

hi i need more info on deon hockey and his teachings

    Thanks

    Andre

  33. Andre,

What we usually do is to first search the Scriptures to make sutre whatever Deon Hockey says and teaches is true or not. Where do we get what he says and teaches? Well, like you we have to surf the internet, listen to his sermons and read some of the articles written about him. Happy hunting.

  34. Deborah (Discerning the World) says:

    Hi Andre

I thought this article was enough? lol
He is a WOF teacher. Word of Faith is a false gospel. He teaches that the evidence of being saved is speaking in tonuges – this is false.

  35. Lizle says:

Deon Hockey is truly a man used by God to heal and teach people. Stop looking at the man and start searching God. May He open your eyes and hearts to receive His Holy Spirit and show you the truth. Why are you so bothered what people do. If it’s wrong in God’s eyes, it is not for anyone to judge. May God forgive every person who judges and open your eyes before it is too late and you burn in hell forever.

  36. Lizle says:

funny how comments are being moderated……are you scared of the truth?

  37. Deborah (Discerning the World) says:

    Lizle

It is very sad when someone like yourself comes to this website and reads an article on a specific false teacher and then attacks the author for making a big mistake, ‘Deon Hockey is a REAL faith healer’ they proclaim, ‘just open your eyes’. Well lets use our brains for this time. I would like to ask you a favour, The bible tells us we need to Test the SpiritsS. (Read this article please) So we will do what God asks us to do – let’s test Deon Hockey.

I want you to get into contact with Deon and ask him for the names and contact details of the 2 people he raised from the dead. (He must have these names, I mean raising someone from the dead is a seriously wonderful miracle that everyone should know about). He has videos of all his other supposed healings, where are the videos of these dead people coming back to life. After he gives you their names, I want you to contact them and get details from them, something that proves they were dead to start off with. Then I want you to go to this webpage Have You or a Loved One Been Raised From the Dead? and post your findings and this will admonish Deon Hockey from being a liar and a false teacher. Ok? can you do that?

  38. Deborah (Discerning the World) says:

    Lizle

Funny how you don’t understand what ‘this comment is being moderated please be patient‘ means.

  39. TrinitySeven says:

Remember, for everyone that may have a little occult power given to them from the devil, there are 100 more huxsters only claiming to have power and using sleight of hand techniques, for you to expose only the genuine hardcore elements, and not the softer elements (it’s all the same pile of garbage mind you) speaks of doing only a partial job, and also gives some of these people a front to hide behind…take the whole pile of nonsense and greedmongering down, not just the one half. Their were reasons why the so-called “amazing randy” took many of his former co-worker types down, it was because he knew all their training techniques, acting, statistics, religion, observation, psychology, and others are used in deceptive manner. So even though he was an atheist, and dead wrong on many matters still, his show was about proving all the charlatans and occultists (well the ones that randy didnt like) down, and just like fakes like oprah winfrey/mj and all those vile ones, he appeared to do a thorough job (when of coarse the truth is THEY WERE/ARE all on the side of evil sadly). Which incidentally is what we are talking about in this post (yet in the opposite way as we are in service to good/God). I just want to help you out as a friend believer to do a better job on these nutty greedmongers, so thank you for your time, and all consideration. Blessings in Jesus. If you need proof about any of this, it’s all available on youtube, video/audio evidence on everything pretty much, AND IF YOU LIKE IT, you better DOWNLOAD it, as the Inet is not going to be free for much longer, you need to understand that.

You are very optimistic to think you are able to expose all of the garbage all the time. Not even Paul was able to do that. Another grave mistake you’re making is to think that we are here to take them down. That’s impossible because Jesus Himself said that they will wax worse in the end time. (2 Tim 3:12-13). There is only one Person who can take them down in one go. Have you guessed who that is? Read Matthew 7:21-23).

  41. Ida says:

Dear discerning people, thank you for this article. I went to Deon’s meeting at my very own church in South Africa. For the first time ever I had a preacher push me on my head, but I did not fall over and he moved on to the net person. I don’t like anybody pushing me. I did not like the things he preached and it disturbed me. (telling us to fight the devil and that he himself was not afraid of the devil) when the Bible only teach us to resist, and he will flee. After Deon Hockey came the falsest prophet of all: and ex police man called Marius Higgins. Ohh man could he foretell the future of all those willing to listen. And with prophet Marius came the unholy laughter into our local church for the first time, (I haven’t heard it since). When I asked my pastor about this, he said I must be careful when questioning the man of god and to not grieve the holy spirit.. I am just rolling my eyes and lifting my eyebrows… shaking my head sideways… Ohno/ stunned. Crying for my church and my people. We would like to hear your opinion on Higgins. (he came to our church driving the biggest black 4 x 4 Mercedes Bens I have ever seen.

  42. Hi Ida

You said “For the first time ever I had a preacher push me on my head, but I did not fall over and he moved on to the net person.”

I don’t know if you have, you probably have, but in case you haven’t please just ask Jesus Christ forgiveness for going upfront to receive the unholy spirit he had to offer and ask Him to remove anything that’s attached itself to you. Just because you didn’t fall over does not mean nothing was transferred to you. The fact that you were there upfront willing to receive ‘something’ opens you up to problems.

As for Marius Higgins, his name rings a bell, I am sure someone has asked of him before on this site. I’ll check.

  43. Ida says:

I will ask Jesus Christ to remove the unholy ‘somethings’ from all of us at church.., and to add some discernment upon our very own pastor not to use our money to pay these rich and famous ‘prophets’. Can you believe we even pay them to bring that ‘stuff’ Cry/

  44. Hi Ida

You said “I will ask Jesus Christ to remove the unholy ‘somethings’ from all of us at church..”

Actually you can only ask forgiveness for yourself. Yes/ You warn and tell others of the demonic happenings and that they themselves need to repent, they then need to come to Jesus Christ themselves. This thought process is exactly what the Apostolic and Prophetic bunch preach – territorial spiritual warfare. Rebecca Brown teaches something similar, that you need to pray for the other person that the demonic entities are bound and then they are free to hear the gospel. If it was so I am sure the disciples in the bible and Jesus Christ Himself would have run ahead to the town – removed all demons from people and then preached the gospel to them unhindered. But it was not so, Jesus told the disciples that if people in the town/home didn’t want to hear the gospel they were to sweep the dust from their feet and move on to the next house/town/church – Matthew 10:14

  45. Dear Ida

Can I ask, why are you going to this church?

  46. Ida says:

Strangely enough I was searching for the one true God the creator of heaven and earth, and then along my pilgrimage I saw all of what John Bunyan (1622 Purition) saw on his Pilgrims Progress, and even more… some are unspeakable.. and I also was fooled sometimes. But there comes a time that you have to leave behind the city of destruction and your loved ones and start moving towards the celestial city (if that’s where you want to go). It’s difficult, the narrow road. Thanks for interpreting the truth. I learned a lot here.

  47. Koko says:

Hi everyone, this kundalini thing is so true. An excerpt from the above article “A man once posed the question to an internet kundalini list: “How does the heat manifest itself?” The answers came back: As HEAT. It feels HOT!” I remember years back, the pastor of a Pentecostal church that I used to attend, invited this man who was into the “prophetic” to preach and to “minister” and “give a word” to whoever, as the Lord leads. I remember that on one occasion, he called out the head of the choir and “spoke into her life” giving her some “prophetic words”. He then told her to lift up her hands, placed his hand on her head and told her to “receive it”. Later after church, I asked what she felt when he laid hands on her. She said she felt “heat” in her hands. At the time, I felt a bit jealous thinking why I never got called out at such meetings too to be “laid hands upon” and when will God have a “word” for me too. All I can say is, I cannot thank God enough for His mercies. In hindsight, I couldn’t believe I fell for all this nonsense (I have fallen for quite a few deceptions out there) and recently had to repent and call on the name of Jesus again. This is because I responded to an alter call at 12. And I can’t for the life of me, remember what was preached, or what I responded to and why. But given the number of deceptions that I have fallen for, I could not help conclude that it was probably a false conversion. Hence why as an adult, and fully aware of what I was doing and why, called on the name of Jesus asking Him to forgive me and to please save me because I am a sinner. Now I have started rechecking all the doctrines I got taught and subsequently I imbed during the years past. And sadly, many are not biblical. “Laughing in the spirit”, “Slain in the spirit”, “Health and Weather gospel”, “Dominionism” (I’m ashamed to say I fell for these teachings) and many others are simply not biblical. No scriptural reference for them like AT ALL. Anyway, keep doing what you are doing and exposing these lies. Those that will hear will hear. Those that won’t, won’t unfortunately.

  48. Dear Koko

We can just PRAISE Jesus Christ that you heard the Holy Spirit’s conviction and you listened and repented. The same with me Koko, I too over many many years have fallen for many false doctrines and even false teachers…point in case – John MacArthur and many many years before that, before I knew about the Apostolic Reformation I saw a faith healer (not gonna mention his name) do some seriously serious miraculous miracles on Youtube that literally made me fall over. Faint/ I had to research the Bible solidly and analyse what I was seeing on video over and over before I realised that Satan can truly heal a person but the healing in never 100% complete. Afterwards the person’s soul is trapped because they start to follow the ‘healer and his false teachings’ – I think it’s very difficult for someone who has been satanically healed to come to the realization that it was not Jesus Christ who ‘healed’ them…

  8. You are solely responsible for the “Comment” you upload, post, transmit or otherwise make available to others using this Web Site. Under no circumstances will Discerning the World be liable in any way for any “Comment” posted on or made available through this Site by you or any third party.
  9. You understand that all “Comments” on this Site are pre-screened or moderated. That means that every “Comment” needs to be approved by Discerning the World before it appears in the “Comments” section.  This is not an automatic process.  Discerning the World does this for SPAM reasons.
  10. Discerning the World has the right (but not the obligation) in their sole unfettered discretion to remove any “Comment” that is posted on or available through the Site. Without limiting the foregoing, Discerning the World has the right to remove any “Comment” that violates these Terms or is otherwise deemed objectionable by Discerning the World in its sole discretion.
  11. You understand that Discerning the World in their sole unfettered discretion is not obligated and can not be forced in any manner, be it legal or otherwise to remove any “Comment” that is posted on or made available through the Site by you.
  12. When submitting a “Comment,” you will be asked to provide your name and your email address. While Discerning the World does not object to your use of a pseudonym instead of your actual name, Discerning the World reserves the right, but not the obligation, to reject, change, disallow, or discontinue at any time any submission name that, in Discerning the World’s sole unfettered discretion, is objectionable or inappropriate for any reason. Discerning the World requires the submission of your email address, but Discerning the World warrants that it will not publish your email address to an outside third party without your consent.
  13. Discerning the World does not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes. From time to time, Discerning the World may contact you personally via email. Notwithstanding the foregoing, you acknowledge and understand that the “Comments” feature of the Site is designed to permit users to post information and commentary for public review and comment and thus you hereby waive any expectation of privacy you may have concerning any likeness or information provided to the Site by you.
  14. You are solely responsible for your interactions with other users of or visitors to the Site.
    1.
