The Enneagram – Are you and your spouse always at loggerheads? Are you constantly fighting, bickering, and calling each other ugly names? Stop right there and don’t despair. Beth McCord and her husband Jeff McCord have found a brand-new way to fix your marriage. They introduce themselves in the following way on their site becomingus

Meet Beth & Jeff McCord

Beth McCord and her husband Jeff McCord

After growing through 24 years of marital ups and downs, there’s nothing this duo loves more than coming alongside couples – armed with the tools of the Enneagram and the truth of the Gospel – to offer a better way to live and grow, together.

They’ve worked hard to create an entire platform to improve your marriage based on the Enneagram and the Gospel. So, take a minute to check out their book, Becoming Us, their live events, and the custom online courses for each couple type. However you prefer to learn, they’ve got you covered!

I couldn’t help noticing the order in which they have placed their phenomenal new tools of marital restoration. The Enneagram is mentioned first and then the truth of the Gospel as if the Gospel is subservient to the occult Enneagram and dependent on it to gain a delightfully happy and joyous exchange of companionship in your marriage. In fact, CharismaNews reported their new-found magical wand of restorative powers on 10th June 2019 in these words—

So how do we resolve conflicts with our partners in a constructive way? The gospel-centered Enneagram provides us with some extremely helpful insights. It shows us how our personality’s unhealthy perceptions can negatively impact our behaviors.

Any formula or mixture of God’s Gospel and other foreign means and ways to allegedly enhance the Gospel is an abomination unto the Lord. It reeks of the poisonous odors of the angel of light whose ministers are as adept as Satan to transform themselves into ministers of righteousness. (2 Corinthians 11:13-15). Nonetheless, let’s give them the benefit of the doubt and do some research to see whether the Enneagram is really Gospel-centered.

The Enneagram

The Enneagram: The 7 Divine Rays
The 7 Divine Rays: 7 eyes. 3 upward turned, and 4 downward turned

Before we venture into the possible origins, roots, and fruits of the Enneagram, we need to remind ourselves of the topmost reason why mankind has always tried to turn biblical faith, which “is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1) into something experiential, tangible and visible, such as mystical experiences brought about by meditation, speaking in tongues, slain-in-the-spirit, alleged bodily visitations of Christ, relics, and icons.  The main reason is that “the natural man receiveth, not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14). They readily admit that the Gospel is the truth but adversely deny its sufficiency to address all mankind’s spiritual problems (2 Peter 1:3-4). Hence CharismaNews’ God-dishonoring explanation of the Enneagram.

A Christ-Centered Approach

Charisma News Logo

Identifying our type is the first step to uncovering the power of the Enneagram as a tool for lasting transformation. But in order to experience real freedom, we must look at the world through the lens of the gospel. The Enneagram illuminates our heart’s intent, but the gospel itself is the transformation. This tool can show us what’s wrong, but only Christ can fix it.

The gospel says we’re free in Christ, forgiven and received as righteous, adopted and loved, and filled by His Spirit with the power to become like Christ. When we focus on obeying externally, we fall short every time. But if we allow ourselves to rest in the finished work Christ accomplished on our behalf, then we can look at our inner world without shame, condemnation or fear. That’s when real transformation happens. (Emphasis added).

CharismaNews’ statement, “The Enneagram illuminates our heart’s intent, but the gospel itself is the transformation” not only undermines the power of God’s Gospel but draws the unsuspected away from its eternal truth to another gospel – a “gospel” consisting of Jesus Christ PLUS something else, in this case, the occult Enneagram. How dare they declare that the tool shows us what’s wrong with our heart but only Christ can fix it. I can assure you that anyone who places his faith in a tool like the Enneagram to illuminate our hearts will never be fixed by Christ Jesus, simply because He said,

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (2 Corinthians 6:14-16). (Emphasis added)

Shame on you, CharismaNews. If Christ alone can fix what’s wrong, it must also be his Gospel that illumines the wrongs in our hearts.

For the word of God [and NOT the hell-deserving Enneagram] is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12) (Emphasis added).

No one seems to be able to pinpoint the exact origin of the Enneagram. There are different opinions. Some believe it started with the so-called sacred geometry of Pythagorean mathematicians; with Plotinus in the Enneads which mentions nine qualities that are allegedly present in human nature; with esoteric Judaism advocated by the philosopher Philo which later branched into the Kabbalah and its Tree of Life; with mystic Sufism and in particular the Naqshbandi Order (“Brotherhood of the Bees)”; with the Franciscan mystic, Ramon Llull who tried to unite and integrate different faiths with his theology of nine principles; with the Jesuit mathematician, Athanasius Kircher who made a drawing similar to the nine-point enneagram in the 17th Century.

Whatever the case may be, Satan developed and centralized his evil activities in ancient mystery Babylon. That’s where it all started when he introduced rebellious humanity to his arts and crafts of mysticism.

From that moment onward, and subsequent to God’s confusion of languages and mankind’s dispersion throughout the world, Satan and his demons devised new ways and means to integrate the very same and original mysticism he formulated in Babylon into the different cultures, nations, and religions that began to populate the earth.

It matters very little what you call his devices, albeit it the Enneagram, the Pentagram, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, or the Sufi Naqshbandi, they all come from the same source, the ancient mystery city of Babylon, and will ultimately come to its end when God is going to destroy it never to rise again (Revelation 17).

George Ivanovich Gurdjief (1879-1949)

George Ivanovich Gurdjief, philosopher, spiritual teacher, occultist, composer, and mystic, who developed the 21st Century Enneagram claimed that the Enneagram originated in Babylon, Mesopotamia in 2500 BC. That alone should make the hairs on one’s neck stand on end.

It boggles the mind to think that a couple who claim to be Christian has gained celebrity status in so-called Christian churches by promoting Babylonian demons, unclean spirits, and every unclean and loathsome bird (spirit) in tandem with the truth of the Gospel.

The Bible never once speaks well of Babylon. In the Book of Revelation Babylon is called a “dwelling place for demons, a dungeon haunted by every unclean spirit, and a prison for every unclean and loathsome bird” (Revelation 18:2).

During his travels throughout central Asia, the Mediterranean, Egypt, Tibet, and India in his pursuit to satisfy his fascination with the occult, Astrology, mental telepathy, spiritism, and fortunetelling, he contacted a spirit whom he called “the pillar of time,” his aid to foretell the future.

He asserted that the term Beelzebub used in the Bible to describe the devil is not the “Prince of Darkness,” “the Prince of the power of the air,” or “the Prince of the world” but an exalted member of the Cosmic Council.

It proves that he was in contact with the very same spirit or spirits who are part of the so-called Council of Ascended Masters, of whom occultists like Helena Petrova Blavatsky, Alice Bailey, and Benjamin Crème are some of the major protagonists in the quest to destroy Christianity.

Óscar Ichazo (1931-2020)

A Bolivian by birth, Óscar Ichazo, adopted the Enneagram from Gurdjief, although he himself denies any affiliation with Gurdjief’s teachings on the Enneagram. He founded the Africa School in 1968 which moved its headquarters from Chile to the United States in 1971 and since has been known as The Africa Institute.

It is a human potential movement that in 1973 Ramparts magazine labeled, “A body of techniques for cosmic consciousness-raising, and an ideology to relate to the world in an awakened way.”

One of the major training courses the Africa Institute champions is how to contact higher beings such as the Metatron and “Green Qu ‘tub.”  The Encyclopedia of New Religious Movements edited by Peter Clarke says the following about the “Green Qu ‘tub.”

Independent biographical information concerning Ichazo is scant; and inconsistency characterizes his self-depiction. He variously claims to have been given Ouspensky’s In Search of the Miraculous at the age of l9—yet to have arrived independently at the ‘enneagon’ (his initial redesignation) ‘before reading Gurdjieff‘. Surreal assertions by his apologist John Lilly (d. 200l)—that he is instructed by Metatron the prince of archangels, guided by the Green Qu’Tub, and has removed his karmic nodules by massaging his left foot with the handle of a mixing spoon—risk situating Oscar in the domain of ‘crazy-wisdom’, amply justifying his protest, years later, that he apprehends ultimate classification as a ‘mystical fruitcake‘.

Claudio Benjamin Naranjo (1932-2019)

A Chilean-born psychiatrist who today is regarded as the leading figure in Enneagramism,  was one of Ichazo’s disciples in Chilly where he first learned about the Enneagram of Personality. He had an enormous influence on some Jesuit priests in America. Numerous authors, including Richard Rohr, have written extensively on the Enneagram in the 1980s and 1990s.

All three abovementioned enneagramists were heavily influenced by Sufi Islamic mysticism. Naranjo’s first impression of Ichazo when they met in 1969 wasn’t very flattering. Naranjo thought Ichazo too manipulative, overbearing, and unimpressive.

Nonetheless, he had great regard for Ichazo’s spiritual experiences which he identified as Sufi-inspired happenings. For instance, Naranjo rightly connected Ichazo’s technique he called “Traspaso” with the Sufi concept of “Baraka.”

Ichazo’s technique of “Traspaso” involves two persons sitting directly across each and staring very intently into one another’s eyes. The meditative and ritual trance that it brings about helps them to achieve a mutual consciousness of non-dual oneness where contrasting and judgmental attitudes take flight in a brotherly, loving way.

This explains why Naranjo was able to dislike Ichazo whilst he admired his spiritual experiences. Ichazo believes that the Islamic Sufi concept of “Baraka” and the Holy Spirit are the same.

Carl Gustav Jung (1875-1961)

It is said that Jungian psychology provides greater insight into the nine Enneagram Personality Types because nine Jungian psychological processes of consciousness can be assigned to nine points on an Enneagram of Consciousness. It proves that Jungian psychology and the Enneagram are natural partners that complement each other very well.

The Enneagram is not the only phenomenon that complements Carl Jung’s research and findings on archetypes and the collective unconscious. His perpetual necromancy in many seances with family members was an important component of his lifestyle that shaped his thinking and psychology (Leviticus 19:31; 20:6; Deuteronomy 18:12; 1 Chronicles 10:13-14). Here are some shocking facts that should convince real Christians to run away from the Enneagram and its proponents as far and as fast as they can. (John 10:1-5).

  • Carl Jung’s maternal grandfather, Samuel Preiswerk (1799-1871), was a pastor of his local congregation who regularly sought the assistance of familiar spirits to help him write his sermons. His daughter Emilie, Carl’s mother, had the duty to sit behind him to prevent the spirits from reading what he had written down because they were rogue pagans. (Zumstein-Preiswerk, p. 120, note 7 and text to photograph of S.P., after p. 136).
  • Samuel Preiswerk’s wife, Augusta, was clairvoyant and a spirit-seer. (Noll, Aryan Christ, p. 25).
  • Their daughter Emilie was a hysteric, psychic, “gifted” with second-sight, and precognitive dreams, and was always surrounded by paranormal phenomena. (For Jung’s mother Emilie’s gift for psychic forces, see Jaffé, A., Aus Leben und Werkstatt C.G. Jungs, Rascher, 1968, p. 15).
  • According to Jung, his mother as well as his daughter Agathe “had inherited their psychic abilities from his grandmother Augusta.” (In 1916, when Jung’s house was full of spirits it was Agathe (12 years old) who saw them. Bair, p. 294; Augusta as spirit seer, s. Jaffé, A., Aus Leben und Werkstatt C.G. Jungs, Rascher, 1968, p. 16).
  • Helen Preiswerk, the granddaughter of Samuel, had an enormous influence on Carl Jung’s psyche. When she had not yet turned six years old in 1887, she experienced several visitations of their grandfather at whose behest she undertook many spiritual journeys. (Bair, Deirdre, Jung: a Biography, Little/Brown, Boston, 2003, p. 48; Zumstein-Preiswerk, p. 55).
  • It is well-known that in 1895 Carl Jung began to show great interest in spiritualism (Zumstein-Preiswerk, note 65, p. 126; note 91, p. 128-129; Noll, Aryan Christ, p. 27: In the 2nd session of July 1895 Jung began to use the typical spiritualistic tools), which was tremendously in vogue in Basle at the time. This dark, demonic influence was brought to bear by a demon who posed as Jung’s deceased grandfather, Samuel, during Helen’s (affectionately known as Helly) séance sessions. It is no wonder that Jung’s depth psychology which he developed in his later years, is nothing more than demonic spiritualism disguised as an exact science (The Border Zones of Exact Science of 1896.) (Bair, p. 44; today published in Supplementary Volume A of The CW).;
  • Carl Jung started to hold regular séances with Helly and some other cousins, including his mediumistic mother, the daughter of Samuel in June 1895 and continued until 1899 (See Bair, p. 49 and Zumstein-Preiswerk, p. 53-54; see also Jung, CW 1, § 39 and § 46).
  • In August 1899 they again pursued their sessions, in which Helly had real shamanistic initiation visions. (Zumstein-Preiswerk, S. 88-89. Already in 1887, at the birth of her sister Esther, i.e., at only 6 years, she experienced the Shamanic Flight (Zumstein-Preiswerk, p. 55; p. 133.) The shamanic flight or journey is when the Shaman’s soul allegedly leaves his body to enter into and explore the spirit realm, retrieve lost souls and interact with other shamanic spirits. When the soul leaves your body you are dead (James 2:26) and it cannot re-enter your body or return to it again because it returns to God who created soul, spirit, and body to be judged (Ecclesiastics 12:7).

There are many other examples of Carl Jung’s and his cousin Helly’s encounters with demons in their séance sessions. During one of these sessions both their paternal and maternal grandfathers appeared, and Samuel spoke through Helly in his own voice and said “We’ll watch over you together.” ( Zumstein-Preiswerk, p. 56). Suffice it to say that anyone, Christian or non-Christian, who is involved with Jung or the Enneagram, is playing with fire – the fire of hell.

Forever Deepening the Depths of the Mystical Swamp

As was said earlier, Satan has cleverly juxtaposed, connected, intertwined, and integrated the various mystical techniques he initiated in ancient mystical Babylon, in ways to give the impression that each mystical practice in use in whatever culture, ethnic group or nation has its own unique and definitive characteristics and purposes. In other words, he would like you to think they are not related.

For example, people who practice some form of meditation (contemplative meditation, centering prayer, the silence, Lectio Divina, and ecstatic techniques such as speaking in tongues, and slain-in-the spirit), will never acknowledge that their mystical experiences are the very selfsame ones Tantra and Yantra Joga exercises produce. Ichazo’s definition of mystical experiences as a “mystical fruitcake,” even “when trying to remove your karmic nodules by massaging your left foot with the handle of a mixing spoon,” is spot on.

Indeed, mysticism is a single, integrated cake consisting of all kinds of different fruits. However, they all have one thing in common and that is to take you on a mystical, ethereal trip to a level of higher consciousness where you are awakened to the illusionary belief that you are God.

Bam! That caused Satan’s and his demons’ final downfall and will ultimately cause your own downfall if you do not repent of your mystical journeys into la-la-land of “speaking things into existence” like Jahweh, seeing God’s face as your own in the nine-point enneagram, conjuring revelations in anticipation of visitations by Jesus, contemplatively meditating yourself into the presence of God, being impregnated with the Christ-child, visualizing the Kingdom of God, etc., etc., etc.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? (Isaiah 14:12-17).

God did not make the Lake of Fire for human beings. He made it for the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). However, whosoever chooses to follow the devil and his lying devices will also be cast into hell, not because God wants it (Ezekiel 33:11) or predestined some to suffer eternally with Satan and his angels, but because they refuse to listen to biblical exhortations.

We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. (1 John 4:6).

We [who teach God’s word] are from God [energized by the Holy Spirit], and whoever knows God [through personal experience] listens to us [and has a deeper understanding of Him]. Whoever is not of God does not listen to us. By this we know [without any doubt] the spirit of truth [motivated by God] and the spirit of error [motivated by Satan]. (AMP).

The Ichazo and Naranjo Fruitcake

Ichazo’s Enneagram fruitcake is a real smorgasbord of demonic dainties. Although Chakra Joga is not part of the Enneagram he used it with people whom he thought are more spiritually susceptible to his teachings.

His clairvoyance made him aware that Naranjo had already previously been well-attuned to Chakra Joga, although Naranjo had never mentioned it to him. He encouraged Naranjo to do Chakra Joga while listening to Sufi music which, in Ichazo’s thinking, would rid him of his overly analytical mindset.

In addition, he taught Naranjo breathing exercises which helps you to enter into a state of mindlessness so that your consciousness may be raised to a level of non-physical higher consciousness, and ultimately into the presence of God, whoever and however you may perceive him – the Cosmic Christ, Buddha, Krishna, etc.

Ichazo’s Africa Institute teaches students Psychocalisthenics, exercises based on breathing techniques, visualizations, and some physical movements taken from Yoga, air force exercises and ballet.

Naranjo was convinced that Ichazo’s consciousness-enhancing technique called “Kinerhythm” which he learned from the Sufis in Pamir, North Afghanistan is closely akin to the Sarmoun, a Sufi twirling dance that puts the dancers and their audiences in a trance.

Most of these techniques are practiced and taught in mystic churches like the Mosaïek Church in Fairlands, Johannesburg, South Africa.

How to Awaken to Your Divine Nature Using The Enneagram

There is a growing tendency in many church circles, especially among NAR and WOF adherents, to use Jesus Christ as a kind of Enneagram to determine what sort of personality traits, and powers they have in Him. Thence, the biblical view of following Christ takes on a completely new meaning when the Enneagram begins to speak to your heart. Like the symbolic graphical structure of the circle and the nine connected personality traits within that circle, Jesus is merely an example or mode of living we need to emulate and follow. This is patently the mystical Sufi outlook on God which so-called Christians are trying to sanctify with their unholy water drawn from their defiled demoniac water wells.

Richard Rohr says in his book “The Enneagram: A Christian Perspective,”

“The Sufis supposedly called the Enneagram ‘the face of God’ because they saw the nine energies manifested in the nine personality types as nine attributes of God (nine refractions of the divine light).”

In doing so, they have cast Paul’s and Jesus Christ’s own definitions of what genuine believers are in Christ and how they ought to live their lives, in the Valley of Hinnom. Shall we remind ourselves what they said?

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? (Romans 6:1-3)

(Paul did not refer to water baptism but the baptism of the Holy Spirit into Christ them moment a sinner is born-again through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross).
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law [or anything else, including the Enneagram], then Christ is dead in vain. (Galatians 2:20-21) (Emphasis added).
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)

The Enneagram is designed to do the exact opposite. It denies self-denial and teaches you how to assert your own fleshly personality traits which are allegedly the “face of God” according to Richard Rohr. Moreover, enneagramists affirm that a graphic drawing on a piece of paper engendered by a bunch of God-hating occultists, and sanctified by an equally demonized bunch of “Christians,” can point you to God.

A blogist whose name I would rather not mention, says the following on her site:

I find it both surprising and ironic that the Enneagram has so quickly gained popularity in the culture while some evangelicals remain suspicious of the tool. After all, it is a system that robustly affirms our sin and brokenness. As Western Seminary professor Chuck DeGroat recently reminded skeptical conservative Christians, “The Enneagram has people of all stripes talking about besetting sin patterns. Can you imagine that? It takes sin far more seriously than any contemporary psychological tool, perhaps so seriously that it’s shattering behavioral sin paradigms that give people a false sense of control.” (Emphasis added).

So sorry to say this Jesus, but you really did a lousy job when you suffered and died on a cursed cross for our sins and brokenness, so that you may send the Holy Spirit (Comforter) to us, and convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. In case you haven’t heard, we have found a wonderful new and superbly perfect tool to robustly affirm our sin and brokenness. We no longer need your Holy Spirit. We now have another spirit that can robustly do a much better job than your Holy Spirit. Sol-long Jesus and Holy Spirit. Hope to see you in heaven one day, inspired and invigorated by the Enneagram.

How on earth can the nine personality traits of the Enneagram robustly affirm our sin and brokenness when none of them can be associated with sin? Let us carefully examine the Enneagram once more to see whether we can find anything that robustly affirms our sins and brokenness.

The Enneagram

Can anyone please tell me which of these above traits are hell-deserving sins? Number 9, for instance, is a trait Jesus highly commended. “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God” (Matthew 5:9). Number 6 can hardly be called sin when you are loyal to Christ and his Word and obediently judge all things (1 Corinthians 2:15). Number 5 may also not be seen as sin (Philippians 4:8).

The only feasible way in which the Enneagram resembles a robust affirmation of sin and brokenness is that it reminds those who cling to it that they are spirituality fornicating with doctrines of demons, and earnestly need to repent before it is too late.

But the [Holy] Spirit explicitly and unmistakably declares that in later times some will turn away from the faith, paying attention instead to deceitful and seductive spirits and doctrines of demons, (1 Timothy 4:1).

The Enneagram is indeed a tool, a tool of the devil, and those who believe that God uses tools devised by men and women who were deeply involved in the occult and countless seances, are heavily deceived and need to repent of their evil.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:20).

Thank you Jesus! I am so glad for this article. The enneagram is all over the internet as is life coaches who uses it.
Had a bad feeling about this as it just looked off.
And my only life coach will be Jesus

  2. Hi Thankful4Grace. Indeed bad feelings about things which one cannot always pinpoint as bad right away, is the promptings of the Holy Spirit to stay away.

  3. Jennifer Mason says:

I thank God for His love He has bestowed on those of us who deserve nothing but the lake of fire, the second death. I thank God for His word and the love of His word, because His word is truth.
Jesus said, “My sheep hear My voice and I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27 “Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” John 10:5
Isn’t God’s word plain enough to understand the difference between the ‘visible and the invisible church? God, please have mercy on the lost.

  4. Hi Jennifer,

    Well-said and so true.

  5. Awesome article Tom. Thank you so much for writing this. It’s very much needed for the church out there that’s being overtaken by this satanic Enneagram.

  6. John says:

You wouldn’t believe how popular this is on collage campuses here in the U.S. Students are using it to make personal decisions on who to date, what classes to take, etc. Many of these are professing believers. Just goes to show you the false teaching that is prevalent in our churches, or should I say the lack of discernment and failure to expose the occult. John in Alabama.

  7. Hi John, It really breaks my heart when hearing stuff like this. What is going on?

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (Ephesians 4:14)
