“Geneva – The UN Security Council on Friday laid bare sharp divisions over the issue of human rights in the disputed Western Sahara but unanimously agreed to extend by one year the mandate of the UN mission in the Moroccan-controlled territory.
The 15-member body backed a resolution sponsored by Britain, France, Russia, Spain and the United States that extends the mandate of the UN mission (MINURSO), which expires Friday, until April 30, 2011.” ♦ –UN divided over human rights

“Iceland’s volcano is still erupting, but at a slower pace. Its earlier tantrum could cost Europe more than three billion dollars in lost revenues. The region is beginning a slow recovery, reports MNN.Despite the crisis, Evangelist Andrew Palau, son of renowned evangelist Luis Palau, turned up the heat in Southern England’s challenging spiritual climate during a recent 10-day mission. “We came to start a fire in the lives of God’s people to think of their friends, pray for them faithfully, and invite them to know Jesus Christ. Ultimately our goal is to win as many people as possible to Christ.”The harvest was ready. Andrew Palau notes, “Once there’s a conversation going and they recognize a sense of humility and care and concern, the conversation quickly turns to personal things, spiritual things–questions they’ve been longing to ask someone.”Working alongside local churches in Tonbridge, Haywards Heath, Chesham, Horsham, Burgess Hill and Marlow, Andrew gave a clear Gospel message in every venue where the Association held events. The result? “We saw hundreds of people make decisions for the Lord. Every event was in partnership with the local churches that had come together in those towns.”.” ♦ –Evangelist turns up the heat in England during volcanic ash crisis–

“A Los Angeles ministry that assists thousands of poor, homeless and addicted people each week will soon launch a college to train students for service, reports Charisma News Online. The Dream Center College will allow students to earn college credits as they give one year of their lives to help inner-city youth and families.”It’s kind of like the Peace Corps of colleges where people can learn, grow and develop at the same time they get college credits,” said Matthew Barnett, co-founder of the Dream Center and pastor of the nearby Angelus Temple, a 7,000-member church founded in 1923 by charismatic evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson.”They can go to the college onsite and get all the things the Dream Center provides with hundreds of outreaches on a daily basis,” Barnett said. The college will be located in a newly refurbished, 160,000 square-foot tower at the Dream Center, established in 1994 by Barnett and his father, pastor Tommy Barnett of Phoenix First Assembly of God..” ♦ –Dream Center launches college to train students for service–

“Iran has won a seat on the UN Commission on the Status of Women, which works to promote gender equality, it was reported Friday… In Iran, women are required to be covered from head to toe in public, and may be beaten for dressing in what is considered an “immodest” manner. Earlier this month a top Iranian cleric blamed immodest women for earthquakes. Women also possess fewer rights in the areas of marriage, parenthood, inheritance and career.” ♦ –Iran on UN women’s rights c’tee–

“Recently the number of emails and Facebook messages telling me that I have gotten it all wrong, wrong, wrong, and that Islam is actually a Religion of Peace and Tolerance, has sharply increased. Someone somewhere must have called for me to be bombarded with messages about my alleged ignorance of Islam. The only problem with all such messages, and with various windy pseudo-academic “refutations” of my explanations of Islam’s doctrines of warfare against unbelievers and their subjugation under Sharia, is that however good they sound on paper, somehow the last people to be convinced seem to be Muslims themselves.” ♦ –Misunderstanders of Islam abounding: 10 Muslim countries among 13 worst violators of religious freedom–

“The State Department seems to think that, among the other attacks carried out by Doku Umarov’s group, a massacre on the Moscow subway isn’t jihadi enough for the jihadi club. “Contrary to the predictions of the doomsayers, it could just be that the Greeks have got away with it, and that the euro is off the hook – for the time being. The reckoning, though, has yet to come. “Greeks face tax, pensions and pay misery in austerity plan,” is what The Times is writing, thus announcing the “austerity package” that is going to have to be swallowed in return for its financial bail-out. The crisis is given a human face by The Daily Mail and it would be hard not to have sympathy with the people who have been caught up in this. “The man who coined the name Earth Day was a Pentecostal minister who thought the observance would help promote peace and unity.According to the Assemblies of God (AG) Heritage magazine, 95-year-old John McConnell Jr., a longtime Pentecostal and peace activist, first proposed the idea for Earth Day in 1969. His plan was to mark the day in late March at the start of spring to promote peace and justice as a prerequisite for ecological preservation. But McConnell also was motivated by his faith. “We love God … [and therefore should] have an appreciation for His creation,” McConnell told AG Heritage, which is published by the Flower Pentecostal Heritage Center..” ♦ –Earth Day Has Pentecostal Roots –

“Following my column last week, I have been asked by someone to write something about the phenomenon of being ’slain in the Spirit,’ which we often see being performed by televangelists. It is a term associated with the practice of the ’laying on of hands,’ and in many of these services we find people falling down when they are touched or prayed over by ’men of God.’ They claim that it is the power of God’s Spirit coming upon them that causes them to fall down.
However, some of these people are easily susceptible to suggestion, some are pushed, some fake it, while others are under a form of hypnotic spell. They all fall backwards and there are people in position to catch them before they hit the floor. Some even go into a sort of epileptic fit with jerky movements of the legs and hands. Not too divinely elegant! In fact, one would have thought that if indeed the Holy Spirit truly caused them to fall, He would also ensure that they would not injure themselves and that they would fall, shall we say, ’softly’! .” ♦ –Is the opposition really united?–

“Arbor Day is a counterfeit holiday that has long since drifted from its original mission. According to the Arbor Day Foundation, the initial observance was established in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City, Neb. Morton’s push to plant trees in the plains of North America was threefold: create artificial windbreaks to keep soil on farms in place, grow trees as a source of fuel, and grow even more trees for building material. By the 1920s, each state in the United States had passed public laws that stipulated a certain day to be Arbor Day. Now it is a national observance noted on the last Friday in April that has nothing to do with its founding principles. Instead in has become a silly exercise in junk science and pagan worship .” ♦ –Arbor Day: Junk science and pagan worship–

“This morning, and numerous times throughout the day, I spoke directly to the God of this universe–no switchboard, secretaries, call screeners or voice mail. What an amazing thing! Even more amazing, God was waiting on my call and anxious to hear from me and talk to me, no matter how many times I called. Prayer–talking to God–is a vibrant and vital personal practice; but it is also a very real part of our national history. At least on May 6, let’s put aside our political labels, corporate titles, skin color and philosophical differences and reach out directly to almighty God, the Creator and Sustainer of Life. Let’s pray for our president and his family; for those in authority, for those like my son wearing the uniform of our armed services, for those hurting financially and emotionally, and for God’s will to be done above our own. And while I pray that God would bless America, I also pray Americans would turn their hearts once more to the God of our fathers.” ♦ –Every day a National Day of Prayer By Franklin Graham

“Investigators are poring over a wealth of evidence to find out who tried to detonate a car bomb in Times Square – New York’s bustling entertainment area. The bomb, described as “amateurish”, consisted of propane tanks, fireworks, petrol and a clock device. It was planted in a sports utility vehicle. ” ♦ –US studies bomb evidence from New York’s Times Square –

“In any case, we know that when Napolitano thinks “terrorist” she doesn’t think “Islamic jihadist” but rather “right-wing extremist,” so even if this was an attempted Islamic jihad attack, it might take DHS awhile to find that out, and the mainstream media awhile to report it. But one clue comes from Jihad Watch reader Michael M.: “the vehicle was parked on 45th Street between 7th and 8th avenues in New York City. This is the location of VIACOM, Inc. offices. VIACOM owns Comedy Central. Comedy Central as we all know is the home of ‘South Park’. ” ♦ –Car bomb in Times Square near Comedy Central–

“MAY DAY protests in Greece turned violent yesterday as youths in gas masks and hoods set fire to vehicles, smashed shop fronts and threw molotov cocktails and rocks at police in an explosion of fury over austerity measures they claim will hurt only the poor. Tourists were cut off from their hotels as thousands of communists, civil servants and private-sector workers converged on a main square in Athens to vent their rage at the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). ” ♦ –Greece erupts as men from IMF prepare to wield axe–

“The President of the European Central Bank, Jean-Claude Trichet, told Forbes that global governance is extremely necessary if we want to prevent another financial crisis. In his prepared printed and spoken remarks to the Council on Foreign Relations, Trichet emphasized that politicians, economists, and financiers must work across the Atlantic and collaborate on methods to create an international set of standards.” ♦ –ECB President Favors Global Governance–

“”Saturday’s riots on the streets of Athens, in which police fired tear gas canisters after being pelted with stones and petrol bombs by crowds protesting at the proposed new austerity measures, may prove to be the start of a long, hot summer,” writes The Sunday Telegraph. And, it continues, as the details of an economic life raft from the EU and IMF are announced today, prime minister Papandreou will be forced to survey not simply the wreckage of the Greek economy, but the beginnings of “cultural revolution” that analysts say his homeland’s crisis is set to unleash across the continent of Europe.” ♦ –Our phony war–

“After it aired, a group called Revolution Muslim posted on its website the graphic images of slain Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, who was murdered in 2004 by Muslim extremists for making a movie about Muslim women. The caption under the images read: “Have Matt Stone and Trey Parker Forgotten This?” Another message on the site said “South Park” producers would “probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh” for airing the show. The website also posted Comedy’s Central’s New York address, Parker and Stone’s California production studio address, and the creators’ photos. After that “warning,” Comedy Central – without the permission of Parker or Stone – bleeped out every mention of the word “Muhammad” and the entire speech at the end of episode 201.” ♦ –Majority of Americans Oppose South Park’s ‘Muhammad’ Censor–

She said scholars have questioned the interpretation of the original Greek words that have been translated to homosexuality.” ♦ –Jennifer Knapp Questions Bible Translation on Homosexuality–

“Today, one of the greatest seductions is that there could be world peace if only the Palestinians had a homeland. So this month, a new film was launched titled “With God On Our Side.” It is aimed at changing the end-time views of evangelicals and the theology that says the Jews are God’s chosen people and have a divine right to the land of Israel.” ♦ –Film Warning: “With God on Our Side” – Championed by Jim Wallis, Tony Campolo, Brian McLaren & Steve Haas (World Vision)–

“One pastor, a Methodist, said he no longer believes that God exists, but his church members do not know that he is an atheist. Most of them, he said, don’t even believe Jesus literally rose from the dead or literally was born of a virgin.

Another pastor, from the United Church of Christ, said he didn’t even believe in the doctrinal content of the Christian faith at the beginning of his ministry, but he continues to preach as if he believes because it’s the way of life he knows.

A Presbyterian pastor in the study said he remains in ministry largely for financial reasons and acknowledged that if he were to make known that he rejects most tenets of the Christian faith he would obliterate his “ability to earn a living this way.”

“Here’s how I’m handling my job on Sunday mornings: I see it as play acting. I see myself as taking on the role of a believer in a worship service, and performing,” the pastor said.

He describes himself as an atheistic agnostic and said he still needs the ministerial job and no longer believes hypocrisy is wrong.

A Southern Baptist pastor included in the study said he was attracted to Christianity as a religion of love and now has become an atheist. If someone would offer him $200,000, he said, he’d leave the ministry right away.

“‘Preachers Who Are Not Believers’ is a stunning and revealing report that lays bare a level of heresy, apostasy and hypocrisy that staggers the mind,” R. Albert Mohler Jr., president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, wrote on his blog in March.

“In 1739, Gilbert Tennett preached his famous sermon, ‘On the Danger of an Unconverted Ministry.’ In that sermon, Tennett described unbelieving pastors as a curse upon the church. They prey upon the faith and the faithful. ‘These caterpillars labor to devour every green thing.’.”

*Updated* Acts 29 Church Works with CAIR, a Hamas Front Group

My name is Mike Gunn, pastor of Harambee Church. I want to clarify a couple of things.

One I find it shameful that your hatred and vitriol toward Mark Driscoll, could link him in some way to this event. Mark and Mars Hill had absolutely nothing to do with this event, and linking him the way you did only reveals your slanderous heart.

Secondly, you are also very quick to judge us for this event, without actually knowing that much of what you are talking about. The last time I checked having 150 non-believers in your building listening to a clear presentation of the gospel narrative is a good thing and the commanded aim of every church on this planet (Matthew 28:19; Acts 1:8). When’s the last time you did the same? Do you even know a Muslim??

Lastly, even if CAIR had terrorist ties (Which is absurd), so what? Aren’t we told to love our enemies, and I would assume that includes preaching the gospel to them (Matthew 5:43-44; Romans 12:9-20)?

Are you people more interested in American values and xenophobic rhetoric than you are the value of preaching the gospel to the lost, which would include those that don’t share our values, and are different than us?

This blog, and many of these comments are nothing more than a woeful attempt to slander a man (Mark Driscoll) who has been extremely faithful to the call of God to proclaim Jesus, and Him crucified!

    That is such a tragedy!

    Pastor Mike Gunn
    Harambee Church

Mike, I’ve given you your chance.

#1. If Mark Driscoll had nothing to do with your Muslim/Christian event, then he needs to get his mug shot off the Acts 29 Network website where he’s listed as “founder and chief visionary” and you need to drop your title of field director at Acts 29. Secondly, you should take the reference to Acts 29 off your church website. I have no doubt you probably already have.

#2. I don’t frankly care whether you find it absurd that CAIR has terrorist ties or not. The FBI found that they did have terrorist ties in the Hamas Funding case and called them “unindicted co-conspirators.” I posted a copy of a letter from three Senators who wrote to Robert Muller, head of the FBI out of concern that other government agencies were also working with them. Read much news, Mike?

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=144905

#3. Had the Gospel “narrative” been preached as the only way to eternal life and the false god of Islam warned about at your pow wow, you would have cleared the room in about 5 minutes, and the only ones left would be those who would be seeking to know the living Christ. Instead you swapped Jesus stories and shut off the lights, with the Muslims claiming the event was a “tremendous success.”

#4. Yes, I happen to know several muslims personally and our son plays with a boy in the neighborhood who is Muslim. Your arrogance is on display when you insinuate that those who object to Interfaith chats in the name of evangelism are somehow promoting isolation and a lack of love and witnessing.

#5. As to your defense of Mark Driscoll, having just read once again the contents of his sermon in Scotland that was pure pornography over the pulpit, I am convinced that he is not a faithful man of God, but someone whose flesh and pride have blinded himself to his own error. My own son in college told me what a stumbling block Mark’s speech and sex obsession in his sermons and writings were to him in trying to keep his mind thinking pure thoughts. Mr. Driscoll has caused many such young ones in the faith to have the same problem. Shame on a man who claims to speak for God and stands in the pulpit on a Sunday morning in Scotland talking about vaginas. God help the scattered and wounded sheep who look to leaders for godliness and find only the stench of the flesh. God help all of us at a time when the evangelical church has become a punch line.

    Islam 101

Islam 101 is meant to help people become better educated about the fundamentals of Islam and to help the more knowledgeable better convey the facts to others. Similarly, my book and documentary are meant to serve as concise explanations of the major moving parts of Islam and their implications for Western society. Islam 101 is a condensation of the book and documentary with the aim of lending clarity to the public understanding of Islam and of exposing the inadequacy of prevailing views. All should feel free to distribute and/or reproduce it.

The Truth Abour CAIR and Terrorism

CAIR was founded in 1994 by alumni of an older group, the Islamic Association for Palestine. The IAP, founded by senior Hamas figure Mousa Mohammed Abu Marzook, calls for the destruction of Israel and the creation of an Islamic state under Islamic law in Israel’s place. (In 1996, CAIR would condemn the U.S. government’s decision to deport Marzook as an “anti-Islamic” act.)

CAIR’s first executive director, Nihad Awad, publicly declared himself a supporter of Hamas at a 1994 forum at Barry University in Florida.

One of CAIR’s original advisory board members, Siraj Wahhaj, served as a character witness for Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman. Rahman is the blind Egyptian cleric convicted in 1995 of conspiracy to bomb New York landmarks. CAIR described Rahman’s conviction as a hate crime.

CAIR’s founding chairman, Omar Ahmed, also an IAP alumnus, is said to have declared at a public event in California in July, 1998: “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran . . . should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth.” Ahmed has since disputed the accuracy of the quote–five years after it was reported by a California newspaper.

After the 9/11 attacks on the United States, CAIR’s Web site featured a link titled, “Donate to the NY/DC Disaster Relief Fund.” The link connected to the Web site of the Holy Land Foundation, a charity closed down by the United States three months later as a Hamas front.

“The subject of attacks on white farmers is deeply disliked by the ruling African National Congress for the unflattering comparisons that it brings with neighbouring Zimbabwe, but it has come to the fore since the murder of the white supremacist leader Eugène Terre’Blanche a month ago. That incident followed a sharp deterioration in race relations after Julius Malema, the outspoken leader of the ANC’s Youth League, started singing at rallies an old anti-apartheid struggle song that includes the words “shoot the boer [farmer]”.The High Court banned the song but the ruling is now under appeal. “”It was April 20 when Rick Warren was at a Los Angeles synagogue with a group of imams and the rabbi from Temple Sinai. They were having an interfaith dialogue there,” Schlueter said. “This is happening. Whether it’s Mark Driscoll’s Acts 29 churches or whether it’s Rick Warren, this is a growing trend and it disturbs me,” the Crosstalk host said. She said an April 22 edition of Jewish Journal included a photograph of Warren in which he appeared to be wearing a Muslim prayer cap.”When I see photos like this, I see the influence of Islam in the church has gone a lot further than we think,” Schlueter said.A spokesman from Warren’s Texas-based publicity firm, A. Larry Ross Communications, said Warren was wearing an Ethiopian Jewish cap in the photo.Observers said while that may be the case, it leaves a questionable impression.A Massachusetts pastor who asked not to be identified said real interfaith dialogue means being who you are.”In real interfaith dialogue, each person brings their distinctives to the dialogue. Warren’s donning of the Muslim cap in the synagogue is compromise,” the pastor said.Schlueter says appearances are important.”It still looks like a kufi or taqiya, the Muslim prayer cap. But it doesn’t matter if it’s a yarmulke or an Islamic prayer cap. The point is that because he’s sitting with a group of imams, a lot of people will think it’s a Muslim cap,” Schlueter said.”When you do interfaith dialogue, you be who you are. So why didn’t he participate as an evangelical Christian? Why did he compromise and wear something that will bring confusion?” Schlueter asked. It was a year ago when Warren addressed the Islamic Society of North American convention, explaining he wanted to promote interfaith cooperation.”I am not interested in interfaith dialogue but interfaith projects. As the two largest faiths on this planet – more than 1 billion Muslims and 2 billion Christians – as Muslims and Christians, we must believe in this. As more than half the world, we must do something to model what it is to live in peace, to live in harmony,” Warren said in his ISNA speech.
Not all Christian leaders are alarmed by the developments. I went and had a quick look at the site of Thousand Foot Krutch . I read their bio and the word that stood out is Transformation. So yes therein lies a problem for me. There are however other points too that worry me yes. But is will take time to discern them properly.

Below is how the word Transformation is used. I have a problem with this. There should be no need for Transformation the way they talk about. I think they are talking about transforming society.

Tapping back into the album’s theme of insecurities and the need for transformation, the track mixes a sweetly melodic, stripped-down verse with a ferocious chorus marked by lyrics about how we camouflage ourselves.

    Men awaken to Maitreya

    Echo

Thus do the simple words of Maitreya echo through the world. Thus do they awaken in men the hope of renewal. Where enough men are so awakened and ready for change Maitreya will increase the tempo and energy of His delivery and galvanize millions to call for action on their own behalf. Men must understand that action must come from themselves, else nothing new can happen. Where men realize this they will act, spontaneously and with hearts ablaze with hope. So will it be, and so will men fulfil their destiny and create the better framework for the new age which opens before them.

    Beginning

Maitreya is at the beginning only of His task to guide men into right relationship; but already He finds that His words encourage, and soon will galvanize, millions to act and claim their destiny, not through revolution but through revelation of their own divinity.

    New Message from Maitreya

    Give Me the opportunity to help you;
that is why I have come.
    If you accept Me I will lead you into your destiny;
that which has been destined from the beginning of this world.
All depends on you: you have to take the steps which make this possible.
We have to see ourselves as One, brothers and sisters, and work together for the good of all.

We are not separate, despite appearances,
we are one group of which I am part,
and for whom I work every moment of My Life.
I would have you know that at this moment

    My Blessing is upon you.
Accept My Blessing, and live simply and with love.
These qualities are close to My Heart.

Thank you for your response to this concern that has been on my heart. Just a cursory look at the demeanor of these bands trying to look Goth or “cool” and even seductive, their lyrics, not to mention their loud and brash trashy screamo music style is enough to convince me this is not glorifying the Lord. There is some good contemporary Christian music with biblical lyrics, but it seems it is gravitating more and more to the flesh. And that is what these typed of bands do.

Example: Stryper’s Oz Fox is supposedly a born-again Christian but still keeps his nickname he chose to honor Ozzie Osbourne. He recently married Annie Lebert of Hookers for Jesus who pals around with the Pussycat Preacher. There is a video on You Tube of them even clowning around with the Gospel! She credits her salvation to Joyce Meyer. Her home church is in Las Vegas – Benny Perez.

Michael Bloodgood heads up a band called Bloodgood with Oz Fox as guitarist ( in addition to being in Stryper) – Bloodgood is a senior pastor if you can believe it.

These are two separate branches from the same main tree, as I don’t think Stryper is on the agenda for the Graham or Luce “ministries”, but they are infiltrating the more fundamental churches through other means.

I have warned our pastor about Acquire the Fire and Oz Fox and his bride who are soon to be featured speakers at a retreat sponsored by a trusted church group.

This whole thing stinks to high heaven. As far as Thousand Foot Krutch is concerned, the opening image on their website looks to me like Satan himself staring through the mask. It seems like pure evil to me. And I shudder to think of the kids who are being sucked into stuff like this.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Proverbs 18:20 – 21 Are Death and life in the power of the tongue? The faith teachers interpret this in a metaphysical sense instead of using a biblical interpretation. But this is not the whole Scripture, it goes on to say “And they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” In other words, what you sow to others you will reap.Lets read the whole portion of Scripture to gain the context. Prov. 18:19-21: ‘A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, and contentions are like the bars of a castle.A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, from the produce of his lips he shall be filled.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”From what they speak will come consequences – good or bad. “Oftentimes the Pentecostal/charismatic faddish experiences wane only to surface again with renewed vigor and influence. Take for example drunk in the Spirit (the close cousin of being slain in the spirit). This was first widely promoted by a man from S. Africa, Rodney Howard- Browne that Benny Hinn promoted at his meeting. It was then brought to Toronto then to Brownsville and spread everywhere as a spiritual virus with no inoculation.

Looking back at the experiences that have become part of the “open church” should immunize us against accepting practices that go further than the Biblical parameters allowed. Often the same aberrant practices come back with even greater intensity when they are permitted again.

Lets look at the Scripture they use- Acts 2 where it says they were drunk in the Spirit. Well not exactly, if one wants to make a paraphrase and distort the words they can come up with this interpretation. It actually says that it was the mockers who said they were drunk. Acts 2:11-13 (after listing the many languages spoken) “ — we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?” Others mocking said, “They are full of new wine.”

“MONTREAT — The Rev. Billy Graham hopes to deliver at least one more sermon as the 91-year-old evangelist enters his sunset years, a spokesman said Tuesday. No final decision has been made about a time, location or format, said A. Larry Ross, a longtime spokesman for Graham.

“At this point, anything else is speculation,” he said.

A Charlotte television station reported that Graham could preach at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, though Ross stressed that might not happen.

Graham and his son, the Rev. Franklin Graham, have discussed the possibility of videotaping a sermon, Ross said.

“While it is yet to be seen whether that vision will become a reality, it is encouraging that he remains healthy, alert and committed to his lifelong calling,” Ross said.

Graham’s last crusade was in New York in 2005, and his strength now is limited.

“At 91 years of age, he realizes that he’s quite possibly in the sunset years of his life,” Ross said. “He’s trying to make every day count, knowing that one day he will join his wife, Ruth, in Heaven,” Ross said.

Graham has previously joined his son on crusades, including one in 2006 in New Orleans in which he saw areas destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

I’ll answer both.If you’re already a pastor, I wouldn’t get a PhD. It’s a lot of work, and the payoff is really small. Really small. When I say really small, I don’t mean studying the Bible is small payoff. But the way most PhD programs are set up it is small payoff. Because you have to read so much junk in order to get your PhD. “Unbiblical teaching has been going on since the early church took root. Peter cautioned that “there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction” (2 Peter 2:1).

Today there is a damnable heresy in the Church that many Christians haven’t yet heard of: The New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) a.k.a. Dominionism/ Kingdom Now/Replacement Theology. Those who disagree with their false gospel must be removed through intense “spiritual warfare” and by raising up a “new breed “of Christian they call an “Army of God.”

The NAR is not new at all. Only the name has been changed — many times — to fool people into thinking there is a “New Wave” or a “Paradigm Shift” taking place in Christendom. Over the years they have dubbed themselves Joel’s Army, Latter Rain, Manifest Sons of God, and the list goes on. They’re ushering in “a reformation greater in scale than the reformation of the 1500′s.”

A liberal pundit lamented that NAR is on a mission to “take control of communities and nations through large networks of ‘prayer warriors’ whose spiritual warfare is used to expel and destroy the demons that cause societal ills. Once the territorial demons, witches, and generational curses are removed, the ‘born-again’ Christians…take control of society.”

The concept of spiritual warfare comes from the Bible. It warns of invisible beings who want to harm us and advises us to put on armor (spiritual armor) in order to ward off their vicious attacks. Problem is, the way in which NAR practices spiritual warfare is both unorthodox and extra-biblical. First of all, they teach three levels of spiritual warfare:

Maybe you’ve noticed the difference on some of the Christian radio stations – how that songs lifting up Jesus Christ are blended with many others that sometimes make you scratch your head and wonder: “What are they actually saying?” or “Is that biblical?” or “This sounds a lot like … [insert name of secular band here].”

Vague and indistinguishable lyrics are sometimes yelled (or whined, or moaned) amidst raw electric guitar chords, emotional electronica, and mind-numbing freight train drum beats moving at break-neck speeds. Other times young men and women rap and hip-hop their way into frenzy. Some sing ballads about their doubt and confusion to the tune of sorrowful violins and piano solos, synthesized to be as hauntingly sad as possible. Once in a while words like “forgiveness,” “justice,” “peace,” “save,” “love” and “God” show up. Much of the time, it’s hard to tell if it’s a Christian singing or not; hence some songs have been granted play-time on secular radio rotations too..” ♦ –ON CREATION 2010 – “Contemporary Christian Music Sways Youth to Worldly Lifestyles, Doctrinal Confusion and New Age Spirituality”May 25th, 2010–

    SHOULD A CHRISTIAN “JUDGE” OTHERS?

    By Marsha West

    May 2, 2010
    NewsWithViews.com

One of the biggest problems in the Church is that some Christians are way too trusting. Jesus warned, “Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” (Mat 7:15). Far too many of the sheep do not heed our Lord’s words. Even when believers are cautioned about certain false teachers, they blow off the warning and blindly follow these wolves.

You’ve probably heard this many times: “The Bible says not to judge.” What the Bible actually says is that we are not to judge a person’s heart or motives. “But he that is spiritual judgeth all things,” says Paul, “yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ” (1Cor 2:15-16). According to Paul true followers of Jesus are of the same mind. When you have the mind of Christ you have spiritual discernment. Christians (who are walking with Christ) have the authority to judge people’s words and actions. How do you know if someone is a false teacher? Go to the scriptures! In 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Paul says: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”

No doubt some Christians will continue to complain that “judging” is unbiblical and play the Mat. 7:1-3 card: “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”

What they fail to understand is that the Spirit of God abides in regenerate Christians. Hence we have the mind of Christ! As for the unbeliever, Scripture clearly teaches that the natural man [unregenerate] “receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor 2:14). So the unregenerate person does not?cannot–understand the things of God. Amazingly, a growing number of self-professed Christians think the things of God are foolishness.

Today many Christians are attending churches where their pastors teach outright heresy! They just assume they’re being taught the truth. Unfortunately that’s not always the case. Granted, there are a lot of ministers who preach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Still, there are a growing number of false teachers who can charm an Eskimo into buying a beach umbrella.

The good news is that believers who read and study the Bible are not easily taken in by apostates. But even mature believers can have the wool pulled over their eyes if they stop being Bereans. It was for this very reason that John penned this warning: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1).

Christians who have the good fortune to own a Bible must gain a thorough understanding of what God says in His Word. “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path” (Psalm 119:105). Those who truly desire a Christian worldview will look to the Bible for wisdom and guidance.

Ray McCauley of Rhema Ministries is leading a group of religious leaders who have formed a council to help President Jacob Zuma and his government deal with service-delivery protests and other problems.

The new National Interfaith Leaders Council was formed at a meeting on Monday attended by about 25 religious leaders from Christian and African traditional churches as well as the Muslim community.

ANC chief whip Mathole Motshekga, who addressed the meeting, said Zuma had called on all sectors of society to partner the government in dealing with the challenges facing the country. Parliament supported the council, he said.

Day of prayer for Bafana — but who will attend?
    LISA STEYN | JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – May 27 2010 14:36

A “National Day of Prayer” for Bafana Bafana and the World Cup has been scheduled for May 29, but it appears that some religious groups won’t be attending.

Pastor Ray McCauley, chairperson of the National Interfaith Leaders Council (NILC) and leader of Rhema Christian Church, announced plans for the day of prayer on May 26.

NILC, in partnership with the South African Broadcasting Corporation, Gauteng and the City of Tshwane, will hold the event at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, as well as Gauteng premier Nomvula Mokonyane, are expected to attend.

McCauley told the Mail & Guardian this week that the event had been structured to “make all religions feel included”. He said that all religious denominations would be represented at the event, including those of the Jewish, Hindu and Muslim faiths.

However Ashwin Trikamjee, president of the South African Hindu Maha Sabha and co-chairperson of the National Religious Leaders Forum said: “I know nothing about it. He has not invited everyone.”

Sinthal Ramiah, chairperson of the Gauteng branch of Hindu Maha Sabha, said he had heard of the event but had not yet received an invitation. “We would have loved to have been part of it,” Ramiah said.

Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein confirmed to the M&G that he had received an invitation from NILC but had declined, as the event takes place on a Saturday — the Jewish holy day of Sabbath. On this day members of the Jewish faith are forbidden to drive in a car, use electricity and write, among other things.

In his response to NILC, Goldstein regretfully declined the invitation and added: “The South African ethos of ‘Unity in Diversity’ obviously requires that any joint national event such as this be done at a time that all religious communities can participate. I am sure that this is an oversight and would urge you that on all future such occasions thought be given to the individual religious requirements of the many diverse communities that make up our wonderful country.”

Moulana Ebrahim Bham, chief theologian and general secretary of the Jamiatul Ulama, told the M&G that he had received the invitation but had forwarded it to their Pretoria office as the venue for the event was in Atteridgeville. The Darus Salaam Islamic Centre confirmed they had received the invitation and were still unsure of who would attend the event.

General secretary of the South African Council of Churches, Eddie Makue, categorically told the M&G, “No, the SACC is not involved at all [in organising the National Day of Prayer].”

The M&G previously reported that the ANC had marginalised the South African Council of Churches in favour of NILC because it refused to “cosy up” to the ruling party.

“As general secretary I have been invited. But as it is just an invitation, there is no role for us other than as passive participants,” Makue said.

Secretary general of NILC, Professor David Mosoma said “we did not exclude anybody”, and said that an invitation has certainly been sent to the Hindu Maha Sabha and if it had not reached them, perhaps “it is still in the pipeline”.

Mosoma said it was “understandable” that Goldstein would be unable to attend and that “interfaith is not about undermining the religions of other people”.

He noted that Saturday was simply chosen for logistical reasons and “in future we will take that [the Sabbath] into account”.

Church Mission to Be Viewed Through Different Prism 100 Years On
    Trevor Grundy
    27 May 2010

Edinburgh — There was only one black African and 19 Asians among more than 1000 delegates present 100 years ago at the historic World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh.

The demographics of those present in early June for an event to mark the centenary of that conference, will, however, reflect more of where the centre of Christian gravity is heading in the 21st century.

There will be fewer delegates, however, when more than 300 people representing 30 traditions from 60 countries gather in the Scottish capital on 2 June at the start of the five-day 2010 World Missionary Conference.

“The 2010 Conference will be held in the same city and in the same month as the epic-making World Missionary Conference of 1910 which many say witnessed the birth of the ecumenical movement,” Roman Catholic Marist Brother Stephen Smyth told ENInews. “We will remember, celebrate and be inspired by events of 100 years ago and work together for unity.”

The 1910 conference led to the creation of the International Missionary Council in 1921, and inspired other church unity movements, culminating in the official formation in 1948 of the World Council of Churches.

The 2010 gathering will be hosted by New College of the University of Edinburgh with the backing of more than 20 international stakeholders.

They are drawn from Evangelical, Orthodox, Pentecostal, Protestant and Roman Catholic traditions as well as the WCC, whose general secretary, the Rev. Olav Fykse Tveit, is among those who will attend and speak at the conference.

In April, Smyth was seconded by Action of Churches Together in Scotland to help coordinate the arrangements for the conference which Scottish academic, Kenneth Ross, believes could provide a “compelling vision” for Christian missionaries during the 21st century.

“Edinburgh draws its inspiration, not so much from historical memory, as from the need today for a compelling vision, a sense of common purpose and viable practical plans to fulfil the worldwide mandate which is fundamental to Christian faith,” Ross said.

On 6 June, the closing day, the (Anglican) Church of England’s second ranking leader, Uganda-born John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, is set to deliver a sermon at a ceremony in the (Presbyterian) Church of Scotland’s general assembly hall, the location for the 1910 conference.

Brian Stanley, a professor of world Christianity at the University of Edinburgh, told ENInews, “The most desirable thing would be for some message to come out of the Edinburgh Conference which ordinary churches can relate to and grapple with and begin to translate into their own Christian allegiances.

“There is always a danger with events of this kind that they exist in either the stratosphere of academic debate or at the level of mission leadership and ordinary church life carries on totally regardless,” said Stanley, who is considered the global historian of the meeting. “I think that’s our biggest challenge.”

He noted that in 1910, most Christian missionaries were aligned to Western imperial endeavours throughout the world. “At that time, the belief was that missionary activity went from the West to the Rest,” said Stanley.

“There was a close affinity between the power of empire and the advance of the Christian faith. Often, the language used by missionaries was military – the rhetoric of combat against the powers of darkness,” he added.

“In 1910, there was only one African delegate, Mark Christian Hayford from Ghana. In 2010, the African voice will be heard, providing, of course, people get their visas to enter the UK which is always a problem,” Stanley said. He told ENInews, “The role of women is of great importance because globally over 60 percent of all Christians are women and I dare say it’s even higher in Africa, maybe two thirds.”

Asked if human sexuality and the role of gay men and lesbians in the churches would be discussed, he said, “It is almost certainly going to be raised but this conference will not be about everything. It is one of the major issues that churches are grappling with, but I wouldn’t describe it as a mission issue. It is not on the agenda.”

Kirsteen Kim, a Leeds Trinity University College theology lecturer who is also working for Edinburgh 2010, said, “This unique global conversation will both inform future mission practices and stimulate further mission studies.”

A hundred years ago, John R. Mott, the conference chairperson, said that the Edinburgh conference was “the most notable gathering in the interests of the worldwide expansion of Christianity ever held, not only in missionary annals but in all Christian annals”.

But 100 years ago, American, British and European missionaries were often regarded by Africans and Asians as part of the colonial and imperial systems they so disliked and in 1910 there were no Roman Catholics or member of the Eastern Orthodox churches at the Edinburgh Conference.

“All that has changed,” said Smyth.

“Pietermaritzburg – Over 100 children were urgently evacuated from the Natal Children’s Home in Pietermaritzburg on Friday night amid serious allegations of neglect, possible abuse, mismanagement and financial irregularities at the home.

The decision to remove the children was taken by the Social Development Department after an investigation by a research team from the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

They were relocated to a safe venue while discussions are held on the way forward.

Matters came to a head at the weekend when it was discovered the children were moved out of their beds – and expected to sleep in tents and a garage – in order to make room for about 120 participants in the Comrades Marathon who allegedly hired accommodation for R150 per night per person.

“The goals for the meetings were three-fold: to listen to God for the global evangelical Church by studying Ephesians inductively, to develop a community of leaders and teachers marked by the values expressed in Ephesians, and to lay the foundation for an Ephesians book/DVD resource to be produced after Cape Town 2010. Ephesians 1 speaks prophetically to the prosperity gospel common in Africa, Latin America, and North America. David and Calisto noted that the Church in Africa needs the reassurance from this text that Christ is not an equal and opposite force to the demonic and that God is still in control, even when we suffer. The metanarrative of God’s good purposes described by Paul is desperately needed in Europe and North America, where a sense of grounding truth has been lost. Ramez commented that Middle Eastern Christians are often so concerned about their own problems that they don’t have a world vision. Ephesians 1 lifts our eyes to see far beyond ourselves and to refocus on God’s plan and will. .” ♦ –Ephesians Expositors Meet in Cairo By Lindsay Olesberg June / July 2010 –

This is the Zeitgheist, the spirit of the Age.

It would be a change if they fell forward .In the Word of God, they usually fell forward on their faces in reverence and awe.
