Jesus appears in Nigeria – AUGUST 2010

Jesus apparitionChrist’s apparition attracts thousands

The following article which describes an apparition of Jesus that supposedly took place in a Catholic church in Nigeria recently – Jesus warned that “false appearances” would be taking place as one of the signs of the last days.

(Matthew 24:23-26).KJV – Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.

Christ’s apparition attracts thousands

BENIN CITY- St Paul’s Catholic Church along Airport Road in Benin City, yesterday, turned into a mecca of sorts as people from all walks of life thronged the church to catch a glimpse of what has been literally described as an apparition of Jesus Christ.

The uncommon but holy phenomenon according to catholic faithful and enthusiasts present at the church premises, came up early Wednesday morning immediately after the offering of adoration at the church. It has however generated so much frenzy amongst catholic faithful and non-Catholics who jostled through the ever-busy Airport Road in the state capital to witness the rare spiritual occurrence.

According to Rev. Fr. John Edosomwan, a Catholic Priest in Edo State, the “apparition of Christ” to people serves to reinforce the faith of Christians in the presence of Christ while tending to reassure the present day followers of Christ that they should re-direct their steps to the faith as exemplified by Christ in the holy scriptures.

“The modern people have lost the presence of God, they have lost insight into the life of Christ and of his presence amongst us because we begin to pursue so many unnecessary things and that has made them far from God,” the Catholic Priest stated.

Rev. Fr. Edosomwan further stressed that the appearance of Christ on the Blessed Sacrament through the monstrance would help re-direct the lives of Christians whose faith have been ebbing out owning to varying challenges of life.

The “apparition of Christ” according to the Priest,” was to remind Christians that through His presence they can draw support and increase their faith in God.”

He pointed out that as Christians we must always appeal for the presence of God in our lives in order to transform our lives and those around us.

Similarly, the spiritual significance of the “apparition of Christ” at the St Paul’s Catholic Church was further described to connote the signs of the end of time by Prince Ken Ebosele, a committed catholic faithful who was present at the church to catch a glimpse of the “apparition”.

Prince Ebosele revealed that it was a reassurance of the fact that the salvation in Christ which Christians profess was not in vain, adding that the appearance of Christ was a manifestation of the presence of Christ in our lives.

Others who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the “apparition of Christ” at this critical period of human’s sinful existence was clear indication that no matter how neck-deep we are involved in sin, the Almighty God has special interest in the salvation of human beings.

They further stressed that the presence of Jesus Christ through the “apparition would strengthen the Christian faith amongst believers who were facing different adversities of life.

A member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Ikpoba Okha Constituency, Hon. Jude Ise-Idehen who was also in the Church described the occurrence as a re-affirmation that “Jesus Christ is real,” adding that, “this is the belief of Catholics and other Christians. It is our faith and belief.”

A woman, Mrs. Mary Omare, who disclosed that she is a member of the Church of God Mission and that she came from Warri to attend a programme in her denomination in Benin City, said she was passing by on a commercial motor-bike but out of curiosity she came to see what was actually happening in St Paul’s Catholic Church, Airport Road.

She confirmed that she saw Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament that was placed on the altar, stressing that “it is real and that with her coming to Jesus on the altar, all her hearts desires have been received by faith”.

Meanwhile, the miraculous appearance of Jesus Christ in Benin City yesterday have been described as a good Omen and an indication that better things are coming to Edo State.

The Director, Edo State Poverty Alleviation Agency, Chief (Mrs.) Evelyn Igbafe who stated this is a chat with The NIGERIAN OBSERVER in Benin City yesterday, remarked that the appearance of Jesus Christ in the state was an affirmation that the present governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was God -sent.

Chief Igbafe pointed out that she was convinced that God Almighty has seen the good work Governor Oshiomole is doing in the state, adding, that this must have informed the miraculous appearance of Jesus Christ in the state capital.

The state Director of Poverty Alleviation Agency who said she personally went to St. Paul, Catholic Church along Airport Road in Benin City to see things for herself, remarked that she was amazed stressing that “it was a miracle.”

Chief Igbafe noted that she was marveled that Jesus Christ appeared along Airport Road where the governor was carrying out solid road construction project.

In her words, “the most wonderful part of it is that he appeared along Airport Road where the governor is constructing a very solid road with drainages.”

She noted that Oshiomhole is God sent to the state.

Apparition :Pilgrims Throng Benin * Faithful Await Vatican Delegate

Forty – Eight hours into the apparition of the Lord Jesus Christ at the St. Paul Catholic Church, Benin City, scores of Pilgrims from within Nigeria and overseas have continued to throng the scene even as Catholic authorities in Nigeria await a high powered delegation from Vatican City, Rome, the seat of the Catholic Church.

When WEEKEND OBSERVER visited the scene of the apparition yesterday, the church security authorities had herculian task controlling the high crowd that have besieged the church to worship, pray and seek healing and deliverance.

Interestingly, messages have also began to pour out as a result of the apparition. The messages revealed as at the time of filing this report yesterday, are that Christ says he was present with them.

Another message was that faithful should pour out their heart desires.

It was also passed to the Catholic and other Christian believers that he, Jesus Christ was in their presence to receive their petitions.

The messages are being revealed from different persons who were present in the church and partaking in the adoration and prayers sessions.

The appearance of Jesus Christ has turned St. Paul’s Catholic Church a place for holy pilgrimage where many people rushed to with awful curiousity and anxiety to experience the rare occurrence.

In reverence to the Lord Jesus Christ, prayers for Divine mercy and worship have continued in the church.

In its usual position on such holy and mysterious experience, the Catholic faithful are waiting for pronouncement from the leadership of the church.

However, this is not perceived as a means to dampening the faith and hope of the Catholic devotees.

I just don’t see where people are coming up with all these comments about “bashing”. I really wish that word could be removed from the vocabulary, seems any disagreement now is bashing.

Based on your previous comment here: http://www.discerningtheworld.com/2010/08/05/redistribution-of-wealth-on-the-way/#comment-19675

I am sorry to find out this board is very pre-trib rapture, I dont consider it a salvation issue but I consider it kind of odd since so many of the false teachers that are exposed on this board are very pre-trib.

I was hoping you would be on my side, maybe we are not so like-minded as I thought. It is a disappointment.

If that’s not a slap in my face then I have no idea what is.

Deborah, some guy says my blog has a “dark spirit” and then goes on about me “Bashing” people, when I am merely sharing sincere beliefs, and you don’t consider THAT a slap in the face?

I really do not get the reaction here. I actually expected you to speak up for ME, not join a neo-evangelical leaning poster.

  3. Biblebeliever says:

I do not have the world view, where those who share sincere beliefs are called “bashers”, and where if someone says they have left the Pre-Trib belief [accepting there are born again people with this view] that is reason enough to call Someone a “Basher”.

Who are you calling ” a neo-evangelical leaning poster” ?

I am going to stand up in defence of BL here if I may.
Burning Lamp has been on this blog for some time now and is much respected for only showing love en care toward all who comment on this blog. I have never heard BL speak one word of insult or hurt to anyone. No BB you know I was looking at the comments from BL toward you and I cannot find where BL once said any thing of insult. BL only wanted to know about a link on your website that felt uncomfortable with.I feel you owe BL an apology. But that is just a suggestion and not a command.

We are told the following in the word of God about Love for each other.

    Romans 12:10
Love one another with brotherly affection [as members of one family], giving precedence and showing honor to one another.

    1 Peter 4:9
Practice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). [Be hospitable, be a lover of strangers, with brotherly affection for the unknown guests, the foreigners, the poor, and all others who come your way who are of Christ’s body.] And [in each instance] do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him).

    2 Peter 1:6-8 (Amplified Bible)

6And in [exercising] knowledge [develop] self-control, and in [exercising] self-control [develop] steadfastness (patience, endurance), and in [exercising] steadfastness [develop] godliness (piety),

7And in [exercising] godliness [develop] brotherly affection, and in [exercising] brotherly affection [develop] Christian love.

8For as these qualities are yours and increasingly abound in you, they will keep [you] from being idle or unfruitful unto the [[a]full personal] knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

    Grace and peace

hello I cam on this website a few days ago and felt upset to think that many of the revivals in the world are deception- however while I am coming to terms with this in part ( I can because Ive always felt uneasy with this prosperity, greed-based gospel which just doesnt reflect what Jesus was trying to show us) I now have a new problem- and I feel quite upset about this as well- this rapture thing! what happens will happen and only God knows what and God knows when. Our knowing the details will NOT save us will it? i thought Jesus just told people to repent and believe in Him and that all who call on the name of the Lord will be saved, if they believe. Believe as little children, and do the fathers will ( which is to love God and love our neighbour as ourself) Since none of us know exactly how this will take place isnt it ok to say, I dont know exactly how the world will end, but I submit myself to Jesus, chose to follow Him, repent of my sins and will trust in the Lord? Why isnt that enough?

I think you need to worry about getting your life right with Jesus Christ first and not worry about things such as this. You can die tonight, heaven forbid – where are you going? Please do read here:

You have absolutely no understanding of the bible, so start with your salvation, come before Jesus Christ in earnest and tell Him you don’t want to play games with the world anymore, you want to obey Him and not man. Tell Jesus you want Him in your life and you want Him to take control and lead you and show you the way forward. Then let Jesus lead you as and PICK UP YOUR BIBLE and study it.

Tip 1 for the day: When you read websites. You are REQUIRED, yes it’s mandatory, that you have your bible in hand. When you read the stuff on the websites along with the verses they supply, read the verses and make sure they are used in context – in other words they are used correctly. This way you will start to learn the bible very quickly.

BL NEVER said your blog has a dark spirit, you made that up. Go read BL’s origianl comment. You are truly something else.

I have lost the plot completely. It is hard to follow as the conversation is spread out over days and on different threads.

Am I right to conclude that Biblebliever and her website had been exposed as … something?

Yeah, something definitely not right as can be seen from BB’s comments.

    The Divine Life
    Why We Were Created
    a blog by Eric Sammons
    August 17, 2010
On this day in 1525 the Eucharist became a symbol

…or, at least Huldrych Zwingli claimed it was.

On August 17, 1525, Zwingli, a leader in the Swiss Protestant Reformation, published the book “Subsidium sive coronis de eucharistia” in which he defended his novel belief that the bread and wine of the Eucharist were only symbols. He also rejected the idea that the Eucharistic liturgy was a sacrifice, relegating it to merely a “remembrance.” The reverberations of this book cannot be underestimated: today, the vast majority of Protestants accept Zwingli’s view, often not even realizing that it was not the view of Luther or even Calvin.

Reducing the Eucharist to a mere symbol has had profound effects, but the greatest is the disunity that has prevailed in Western Christendom since the Reformation. As I wrote in Who is Jesus Christ? Unlocking the Mystery in the Gospel of Matthew in the chapter entitled “Shepherd”:

[U]nity in the Church is not the result of theological conformity; rather, theological agreement is the result of a preexisting unity founded upon the Eucharist. It is not coincidental that the greatest case of disunity in the Church — the sixteenth-century Protestant Reformation — included a denigration of the Eucharist to merely a symbol of Christ rather than His real Presence. No longer bound by the Eucharist, the leaders of the Reformation began a never-ending proliferation of new denominations and Christian bodies.
The Church is not united based on the desires and strengths of men, but because of the unifying grace of the Eucharist. Without it, our fallen race is guaranteed to be divided. Thus, those who are still united through the Eucharist should not look upon these sad events in a spirit of pride or triumphalism; it is not of man’s power that the Church remains united. Only — only — by the presence of the Shepherd in the Eucharist can it hope to remain one flock. Without Him as the source of unity, his followers will truly be a flock that is scattered.

Let us pray that one day all Christians will be united in the one Eucharistic Body of the Lord, which is no mere symbol, but is truly the Real Presence of Christ among us.

Also many traditional catholics don’t like the ecumenical movement because of the evangelical influence…you are not alone! LOL!

Also with regards the Rosary and Fatima, your comments are baseless, Elmarie, you have missed the Christological center of both the devotion and the messages.

Every Christian is awaiting the return of Jesus which will certainly need no ‘pronouncement’. If you do not believe that the glory which surrounds Jesus will be globally evident and obvious, you are looking for the wrong Jesus.

  14. Bunnytrails

No wonder you were so adamant to pronounce that the Bible is not the FINAL AUTHORITY over our lives and that one can read other non-godly stuff as well – that obviously in your case includes the catholic bible?

I said your name bunnytrails suited you, because I knew you were not a born again Christian, rather another new world Christian. As you wrote in riddles. And now we have it. You are Catholic. You could have just saved me time trying to figure out what your game was.

Virgin Mary Appears on BBC TV

This is a segment that appeared on the Wednesday 18th 2010 edition of BBC’S Newsnight programme (Newsnight is a BBC Television current affairs news programme noted for its in-depth analysis). Allan Little heads to the village of Medjugorje in Bosnia-Hercegovina, where many believe the Virgin Mary appears daily…

    http://watcherslamp.blogspot.com/2010/08/virgin-mary-appears-on-bbc-tv.html

Please watch this with discernment. Be careful that no one deceives you……

    Matthew 24:4
Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.

    Matthew 24:5
For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ, ‘ and will deceive many.

Bunnytrails I don’t know which comment you are referring to. There is no Christological point to the Roman Catholic view of the Eucharist or The Roman Catholic Fatima, which can be Biblically missed. Therefore what point is it you are referring to?

    – John 6 alone is clear enough the Christological aspects of the eucharist. Or church history (Ignacious of Antioch, Polycarp etc. Its online-read it for yourself. There are no excuses.), make your pick.

-With regards to Fatima, since I’m engaging a fundamentalist, this is a moot point. If you can’t see a call for renewed vigor in prayer and repentance Christ centered then I don’t know.

Every Christian is awaiting the return of Jesus which will certainly need no ‘pronouncement’. If you do not believe that the glory which surrounds Jesus will be globally evident and obvious, you are looking for the wrong Jesus.
    – what does this have to do with the Eucharistic miracle? The pronouncement is whether it is a natural event caused by fanaticism, supernatural (but satanic) or from God. It is obvious according to the scriptures that the return of Christ will be quite spectacular.

    – The Bible is the c0-final authority, since as Catholics believe (as you well know) that ALL doctrines are taught either explicitly or implicitly in the writings. However if you interpret it wrong you end up with problems. we have abundant proof.

    e.g.
    Explicit: Do not kill
    Implicitly: Trinity

    – The bible would not have been in your hands if the Catholic Church had not copied it out by hand for centuries. Try and be grateful to the Church for it at least.

    – LOL! I’m not a born-again Christian? And by what authority do you have to judge me saved/Born-again? None.

-I have never written in riddles…unless you regard holy scripture riddles…

    – My game? My “game” is merely righting misconceptions. You need to get into some history and wake up to the fact that your views are just that, your views. They are not the views of the Church in any age save your own and a few people who by chance agree with you.

The source is SATAN bunny trails.

-The source of dissent and heresy is SATAN.

RE: Medjugorje: The Church has not approved of this apparition. The Bishop himself has declared that nothing supernatural is happening there. Generally people get carried away with sensationalism. Do get over it when you have a moment. A cold shower may do the trick! LOL!

BT, let me take your mind back, when you say: “Jonathan AKA Bunnytrails, 31 August, 2010 at 10:57 pm, I don’t know which comment you are referring to.”

DTW was referring (and rightfully so) to your comment here: BunnyTrails, 19 August, 2010 at 12:08 am
“I am like most Catholics awaiting the final pronouncement on this happening, whatever the source may be.

I’d like to comment the following:

    I quote from: http://www.bible.ca/cath-bible-origin.htm

“The Catholic officials above claim that without the Catholic Church there would be no Bible; they argue that mankind can accept the Scriptures only on the basis of the Catholic Church which gathered the books and determined which were inspired.

Surely the Catholic Church cannot claim that it gave us the Old Testament Scriptures. The Old Testament came through the Jews (God’s chosen people of old) who had the holy oracles entrusted to them. Paul said, “What advantage then remains to the Jew, or what is the use of circumcision? Much in every respect. First, indeed, because the oracles of God were entrusted to them.” (Rom. 3:1-2; see also Rom. 9:4-5; Acts 7:38).”

Please read the whole article – quite interesting!

    Second, I quote from: http://www.carm.org/did-roman-catholic-church-give-us-our-bible

“First of all, the Roman Catholic Church was not really in effect as an organization in the first couple hundred years of the Christian Church.”

“The authenticity of the New Testament documents rests in the inspiration of God through the apostles. It does not rest in the declaration of the Catholic Church.”

“When the Catholic Church claims that it is the source of the sacred Scriptures, it is, in effect, placing itself above the word of God.”

BT, you refer much to “the Catholic Bible”, so obviously you know there is a difference between that and the “Christian Bible”? And yes, there indeed is a difference; and this blog, I believe, is not there to teach readers about the “Catholic Bible”.

    See here: http://www.carm.org/roman-catholicism-bible-and-tradition

So what is the “Catholic Bible”? I quote from the carm.org article:

“One of the great differences between Protestant and Catholic doctrine is in the area of Tradition. The Protestant church maintains that the Bible alone is intended by God to be the source of doctrinal truth (2 Tim. 3:16).

The Catholic Church, however, says, “Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture make up a single sacred deposit of the Word of God . . .” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 97. Note, all citations in this article are from this Catechism).

    The Catholic Church reasons thusly:
    1. “The apostles left bishops as their successors. They gave them their own position of teaching authority.'” (Par. 77).
    2. “This living transmission, accomplished through the Holy Spirit, is called tradition…” (Par. 78).
    3. “Both Scripture and Tradition must be accepted and honored with equal sentiments of devotion and reverence.” (Par. 82).

Within the Catholic scope of Tradition, many doctrines have been “revealed” to the Church over the centuries. For example, there is the veneration of Mary, her immaculate conception and her bodily assumption into heaven. There is also the apocrypha, transubstantiation, praying to saints, the confessional, penance, purgatory, and more. Protestantism as a whole differs with Catholicism in these additions.

  19. Paul says:

I am an ex RCC – Praise the Lord.

All Cults claim to be the “Only Way”, including the RCC. When someone declares that he is God you know that he is a liar. The RCC Popes say that they are God. He is “Father”, “Vicar of Christ” and all priests are “Alter Christus.”

One of the Hallmarks of a cult is sexual deprivation. The Vaticans own declaration is that 31% of all of their clergy are Peodophiles and Sodomites! A private survey put the figure at 63%, I believe this to be true. They condone Sodomy and say that Sodomites can be priests as long as they don’t practise it – This is in their own Catechism. God says that Sodomites have a reprobate mind and yet they are priests.

Gods Holy Word in unholy hands, never. There are several places in the Scripture that warn against adding to or taking away from His Word and yet they butcher it to make money. for example they demand money from heartbroken widows to “Say a Mass” for their dead loved one so as to shorten his time in purgatory, what a bunch of reprobates.

They are reprobates and anyone belonging to the RCC is part of it!

  20. Carolyn says:

Eucharistic miracles are nothing new. There are over 129, (the latest being one in India in 2001) with Church approval, occuring throughout the past 2,000 years. A bk. entitled, Eucharistic Miracles of the World (2009) is a helpful source for research. Lanciano’s well-known miracle from the 17th Century was analysed by the scientific community with results indicating that the tissue was “in the same condition as would be expected if samples were came from a living human that same day”. The WHO carried out 500 tests for over 15 months to verify these scientific findings, concluding by corroborating earlier studies. In Dec. 1976 the Medical Commission of the WHO and the UN published results in Geneva/New York stating…”science had come face to face with the mpossibility of giving an explanation”. It seems time that we humble ourselves & try to understand that when Jesus said He would be with us until the end of time, He meant it “literally”.

  21. No Carolyn

If you read your Bible you would understand that this is not the case. Jesus CLEARLY said you will NOT SEE HIM again in any form, shape or fashion, until the VERY END, His 2nd coming.
