Andrew Wommack – False Teacher

Andrew-Wommack-2

Bethel Church is becoming his favourite playground for spewing his heresy…

“God has already placed His healing power within us, and it is now under our authority. It isn’t up to God to determine who receives healing; it’s up to us!”

“The Lord never told us to pray for the sick in the sense that we ask Him to heal them. He told us to heal the sick.”

Andrew Wommack, Faith For Healing Is Based On Knowledge.

Andrew Wommack believes in the “Word of Faith” theology that conceives of faith as a force conveyed by words that bring about reality. If you say, “I think I’m going to get a cold” you will actually create the cold (unless someone else counters your negative words by saying something positive). All of this takes place independently of God.

In his series titled “The Believer’s Authority”. Andrew Wommack tells the story of when his infant son kept waking up all through the night with symptoms of croup so severe that he could hardly breathe. This happened every half hour all night long. Finally his mother said, “Admit it Andy, he’s sick.” Andrew Wommack said,

“Man I got right down in her face and stuck my finger in her face and I said, ‘Satan in the name of Jesus I command you to shut up. … And for two days she never said a word. We were on vacation. It was an awesome vacation – you can imagine.”

The Believer’s Authority (https://awmsa.net/product/the-believer-039-s-authority-e-book-pdf)

Andrew Wommack teaches that God gave man all authority on earth, so God Himself had no authority. The reason Jesus had to come in human flesh was to gain that human authority. He teaches that God had limited His own authority by giving it to man such that God was unable to speak Jesus’ body into existence. And so God had to find men to do it on their authority. It took God 4000 years to find enough men with enough combined authority to create Jesus’ body. Apart from the help of men God was unable to create a body for Jesus.

Andrew Wommack utters this blasphemy:

“When (people) see that some sickness, disease, tragedy comes into their life, instead of taking their authority and rebuking the devil and commanding him to leave, instead they go to God … and they beg God, ‘Oh God please change this situation. Oh God please get the devil off my back.’ And it’s not within God’s power and authority. He gave us that power and authority.”

2 Timothy 4:3-4 “3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

  1. Mick. Paul of Tarsus said “a little leaven leavens the whole lump” and not I. He also wrote:

If any man think himself to be a prophet (a preacher of the trutht), or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.
    (1 Co 14:37)

Of course there are a lot of incorrect teachings on trhe web. Don’t you know what Paul of Tarsdus said?

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. (2 Ti 4:3-4)

You seem to tolerate incorrect teachings.

  2. Mick says:

I do not tolerate incorrect teachings, I weigh all things with the Bible. (It’s incredibly hard to have the entire Bible memorised in order to verify something so fast.) I have yet to find any preacher who never makes a mistake, who never says anything false. But I don’t write them off completely because of one or two statements they make: I ignore the things I discern to be false, and hold fast to the sound doctrine.

I am very well aware of Paul’s teaching that you quote, including that it is an extension of Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 16:12. I am also aware that Jesus even described the Kingdom of heaven as like yeast (Matt 13:33). I am also aware of John’s in 1 John 4:

Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

I am trying to discern whether your teaching on this site is accurate. If I find one mistake, should I discard the entire site? Is misquoting a person, or taking them out of context, worthy of being called a “false teacher”, etc.?

  3. Hi Mick.

As I said earlier, Andrew Wommack is a Word of Faith protagonist who believes your words have creative power – LIKE GOD. Is this part of the doctrine of Christ? – yes or no.

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. (2 Jn 1:9-11).

You are welcome to follow Andrew Wommack’s teaching but please don’t expose your wife and kids to his poison. You will have to give an account to God.

  4. Dear Mike

The entire Word of Faith RELIGION is occult. Not just little erroneous doctrines here or there. You can not speak things into existence, like God – this OCCULT religion is based on the occult teachings of Law of Attraction. Word of Faith’s other names are Metaphysical teaching aka Christian Science or New Thought, or Latter Rain Movement.

  5. Mary says:

Andrew Wommack does not teach that God has no authority, he teaches that God is sovereign but not in the way that he controls everything we do. Which he doesn’t, when God created us he gave us free will. And he also gave us dominion over the Earth as stated in Genesis 1:28.

And in response to your comments about what he says about healing is true. Mark 16:17-18 states “And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.”

  6. Dear Mary

Of course Jesus Christ heals, if we pray to Him directly and if it is God’s Will for us to be healed we will be healed.

Do you believe? Are you truly saved? You quoted Mark 16:17-18 – did you notice it says “they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them;”

Have you tried this lately? Please I ask that you pick up a deadly snake (please don’t remove its teeth or milk the teeth of its poison as some snake handling cultic ‘Christians’ do). If you don’t like snakes, you can always try drinking some cyanide, and if that doesn’t float your boat, you can always lick a poisonous dart frog. :giggle:

Will you live? If you believe this verse as it says (without reading it in context of scripture) then you will live right?

    Wrong.

Only the Apostles (chosen by Jesus Christ, and named by name in the bible) and those who had hands laid on by Christ’s chosen Apostles were given this power to heal, to cast out demons, to speak with new (earthly) languages to spread the word of God to other countries, to lay hands on the sick and they would be healed, and here’s the biggie….they could not die – they had a ministry to go out and preach the gospel to the nations and God made sure they survived by the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. When the Apostles mission ended, after they had completed the writing of the bible, the Apostolic gifts passed away. Please read: https://www.discerningtheworld.com/2019/08/13/apostles-and-super-apostles/

Now we go directly to Jesus Christ Himself for all our needs. We do not need a false apostle or prophet to tell us they can heal us.

There are no more apostles or prophets today. The bible is clear that God speaks to us through His Son who is the Word of God,

    Hebrews 1:1-2 1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Do you see what happens when you misinterpret scripture like you have? I recommend you stop listening to Andrew Wommack and his false teachings and start listening STUDYING the bible yourself with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

  7. Hi Mary. Have you cast out devils yet, do you speak in new tongues, have you taken up serpents, and have you drank deadly poison, yet, without being hurt?

I know this is older, (2019) but I would LOVE to be put in touch with RJ! We have SO much in common. I have no friends, and 8 adult children of whom only 5 still speak to me, I am “Jesus woman”. They walked away from Christ, and He is indeed as always 100% right. I have SO many family members who won’t speak to me anymore..again, as I am “Jesus woman”. I do believe my husband is lost. He hardly speaks to me OR acts like I am even here. But I KNOW that I have even better, as I have sweet Jesus and God led me to you, finally someone who knows the TRUTH of God’s word and studies as I do as I want to know more and more. Many years later, still hungry for more of Him. I check ALL against Scripture.. Seriously though,, I’d so very much LOVE to have a friend like RJ! (If she still writes in, feel free to ask her if she wants to email me?) That said. I’ve no idea HOW you guys get through comments here and still be sane. Wommack IS a wolf! That one “checks all against Scripture” but missed it by miles, and NO ONE needs to “memorize the Bible”. Remembering important verses comes with regular reading, as I am sure you know. SO many believing falsely, it’s heartbreaking! We are warned of this all coming in these last days, again, as you know, however. WHAT IS it that Wommack has to so easily “sucker in” SO many people? I listened to him once for about 5 minutes and I knew! WOLF! I praise God for you, as no matter how outlandish, you come back with truth backed up by Scripture. As far as tongues, one only need carefully read Acts 2 – even go to say, Bible Hub and read a couple Commentaries and back to Scripture again to see that ‘Tongues” are indeed languages. One way I study. Wow guys, that was tough reading the comments – then I saw Mark Taylor mentioned – so many believe him too! andI’m just stunned at all the bizarreness you just KEPT getting back, so I knew that I had to commend and send blessings to you both. As the Bible says, It’ll only get worse, so you’ll both definitely be extra in my prayers. Love in Christ to you both!
PS – Having been disabled 20+ years and my eyes are BAD, so hey, do put me in touch with Andy Wommack. I need a miracle. Let’s see what he’s made of! (OR I can “just” continue to believe that God’s grace IS sufficient for me!) I do still pray for healing, as.Jesus said to KEEP knocking!

  9. Jesus is Lord says:

So you believe that God isn’t the same today as yesterday? You are mistaken, you should ask God in the name of Jesus to fill you with the Holy Spirit. John 2:17-21

  10. to “Jesus is Lord”

So, if God is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore, then false teachers like Andrew Wommack are also unchangeable and immovable? God’s immutability is not the prime criteria to discern false teaching.

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. (Psalm 138:2)

Vague at best in your interpretation of A. Wommacks position..
I have been under the Calvananist teachings in an E free church for many years..while I respect the teaching ( even though I think its wrong on many points now after baptism of the Holy Spirit” they couldn’t convince me tongues stopped at the end of the first church. (Not logically anyway) I have been a believer since may 15 1975. I’ve been involved with many church groups and teachings..not until I began praying in the Spirit did I understand the Word of Faith ” As you call it” movement.
I now understand the 10 virgins message very clear, and the Remnant that God is calling in this hour. Its also a church separation. Moving and understanding the gifts of the Spirit will help define the Word of Faith to you..
Read Lester Summerall’s book ” The gifts and Ministry of the Holy Spirit”.
I’m not here to argue I just want unity in the body and be able to see you in heaven..
    God Bless
I ask the Spirit of Wisdom and Revaluation to bestow His gift upon you, in Jesus Name.

  13. Jim 32 wrote, “not until I began praying in the Spirit did I understand the Word of Faith ” As you call it” movement.”

First of all, we never coined the phrase “Word of Faith.” It is an internationally used one that has been around for many years. Secondly, the fact that your experience (speaking in tongues) verifies the Word of Faith as valid and true, is not biblical. Why? Well, Jesus, Himself said, “An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas.” [His Resurrection from the dead] (Matthew 12:39). Therefore, He could never have given you a gift of tongues, and neither did the Holy Spirit because He will NEVER contradict Jesus Christ. I suggest that you stop reading books like “The Ministry of the Holy Spirit” and start reading the Bible. I also would like to see you in heaven but you won’t be there if you base your salvation on a sign like the speaking in tongues.

  14. Vanessa says:

Well did Jesus tell the disciples to heal the sick as part of the great commission of not? Did He tell the disciples to raise the dead or not? Did He tell the disciples if you believed in your heart and spoke to the mountain it would love it not? … If He did then Andrew Wommack is spot on … He’s not bound by unbelief, fear of failure or of what others think about him. Did God give authority to man on earth or not? Did Jesus tell the disciples if they forgave sin it was forgiven and if not then it was retained? Did Jesus give us authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to cast out demons? Did Jesus tell the disciples that all authority was given Him and He was giving the disciples that authority? Did Jesus say He was the express image of God? If these facts are true recorded in the bible then Andrew Wommack is spot on. I truly don’t understand why people get bent out of shape over authority … God gave the earth to man, He gave them dominion… They have that to satan …. Jesus won it back when He became the first person to be born from the dead. He died as our sin, He took our place, He became sin for us so we could be the righteousness of God through Christ. All this is documented in the bible and that Word is alive and active … I think people don’t understand the new covenant of the fact that man, made in the image and likeness of God, by God does indeed have authority on earth. So is Andrew Wommack a false teachers cos he grasps authority … ??? God doesn’t sit in heaven making people sick, cos Jesus came doing good, healing all who were oppressed by the devil … So all sickness and disease originates from darkness. … God doesn’t pick some to be born into poverty, some into sickness, some into the curse … It’s man’s authority by having sex and producing a human child … God is only good … When Moses wanted to see God what did God show him? His goodness? Yes! His Goodness! Does God cause sin?? No or yes? If He causes sin then is He good or evil? I think understanding truth needs the Holy Spirit, and we need to rightly divide the Word of God.

  15. Vanessa, have you raised any corpse to life?; have you moved mountains?; have you healed sick people?

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. (Mat 7:21-23)

  16. Carlos Reira says:

Hi brothers and sisters in Christ.

By no means is every mystery of the incarnation known to us, but Wommack is purposefully controversial. He enjoys the privileged position that all congregationalist ministers do of having no higher human authority to answer to. No synod, no convention, no presbyterian system, certainly no bishop. But he has to answer to the body of Christ. We have a built in immune system.

The scripture says to provide for honest things in the sight of all.

The facts as I know them:

    1. AWMI, and Charis Bible college are his ministries and he is able to higher and fire, control doctrine, select teachers and teaching and so on

    2. This ministry is one of the richest. Its impossible to get figures, but recently Wommack said on YouTube at Duane Sheriff’s church that over a billion dollars have passed through his ministry over the years, and that he told Jesse Duplantis he was looking for 600 million in order to expand the college. He remarked that 50 million was nothing to God or words to that effect.

    3. His adult sons are a well guarded secret. The elder is Joshua, around 48, a tattoo artist in Colorado Springs. He is unashamedly satanic in his imagery, though such things are admittedly normal in the tattoo world.

The younger is Jonathan Peter, about 45, also an artist, currently living in Morocco according to Saatchi Art. He was said to have been raised from the dead. Andrew is online as late as 2020 repeating the story of his son’s miracle recovery. But online statements by the ex wife Desiree Cannon Wommack allege that it was an overdose from which Jonathan was revived at the hospital. She alleged further that while married she was severely abused by her husband and silenced by her mother in law, Jamie, Andrew’s wife.

    4. All doctrinal issues aside these allegations are serious enough to demand an answer. Christians should avoid this ministry. Any insiders who know the truth should come forward.

  17. Pam says:

According to your quote Andrew Wommack sounds like the old serpent who wants to take over the throne of God. Jesus warns us during his ministries on earth to beware of false guide in this last days for the old serpent will do all his power to deceive people for he knew his days are being counted on earth and he will be bound for 1000 years when Christ comes again. Search the scriptures, be vigilant, do not ceases to ask God of all your uncertainty for God is the source of all truth. Andrew Wommack is one of the false guide that the scriptures mentioned. I myself do not ignore even simple statement when he disregard the power of God and claimed it as his own power. I do not believe Andrew Wommack has the power and authority from God because there’s no whole truth that comes out from his mouth.

(I suspect that this comment will also offend. Fortunately, I won’t lose sleep.) I was searching for some information, because a friend who is suffering from serious illness, told me that she was referred to some of Andrew Wommack’s teachings. I can guarantee that I won’t look here for any information.

I can understand why you do not know Wommack from Adam. Andrew Wommack, a word-faith teacher who majors on the promise of healing, teaches that Satan was originally on this earth in the Garden of Eden as Lucifer (The Lightbearer). He supposedly was God’s favorite angel sent to earth to be a blessing to Adam and Eve. He was an angelic being sent to be their protector, to minister to them, and serve them. He was there on a divine mission, still in his perfect state. Now think of what he’s saying: that Satan was sent by God as an unfallen angel into the Garden to bless and protect Adam and Eve. Is that what is written? No, he fell in heaven before he even tempted Eve on earth. (The Berean Call). If Wommack can tell this lie, why would you and your friend believe him in all other matters of grave importance, especially healing?

Now, let me tell you about three young missionaries who were told by a Pentecostal (NAR) forerunner not to take medicine because they were walking in divine health, and eventually died of their malady, while they could have been healed if they took their medicine.

A Canadian pastor, A. B. Simpson, was the founder of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, He was regularly invited to speak as a keynote speaker at the 1885 Bethshan Conference on Holiness and Healing in London. This conference is regarded by many as a turning point in the origins of the modern Pentecostal movement. A. B. Simpson taught that saints who use doctors’ prescribed medicine were apostatizing their faith in God. Three young missionaries to Sudan who were influenced by his abominable teaching died in 1890 when they refused to take medicine. If God sent them to Sudan to preach the Gospel of salvation to the lost, it was Satan through A. B. Simpson who prevented perhaps hundreds of souls from getting saved, because Satan is a murderer (John 8:44), not God. This grossly hellish sham is perpetuated to this very day in many Pentecostal and Charismatic churches where many have lost their lives because of this lie. Pentecostal preachers have a history of many failed healings.

Are you going to be an accessory to your seriously ill friend’s subsequent Wommack-woes?

  20. Marie says:

Pastor Thurman Scribner does the true teaching of healing. He is a true man of God.
I am awake and I thoroughly research anyone that I .
would recommend. It seems like Wommack listened to Thurman Scribner and twisted everything he preached.
Thurman Scribner tells you what all it takes to walk and be a true man/woman of God,
He discusses how most sin and not forgiving/holding resentments can cause disease.
He takes everything straight from the bible and can back everything he says up.
It was very eye opening when I started to watch his videos many things I learned that i have never heard or taught. He has truly opened our eyes to Jesus and Father In Heaven in such a more closer and spiritual way.

  21. Marie. In a video on their site “The Living Saviour Ministries” it is said that Thurman Scrivner has a 100% success rate of healing the sick who believed. Believed what? That he could heal people, raise the dead, and pray people out of hell into heaven? If the latter were true, we don’t need Jesus cause Thurman can pray people into heaven. Would you mind giving me your testimony of how you were saved?
