Hi Koko,

When a passage or verse from Scripture stands out for you in certain circumstances it is the Holy Spirit who illumines it for you. Lectio Divina is something totally different. It requires of you to use a passage or verse from Scripture and to repeat it over and over again until it allegedly changes your life. It goes against the grain of the Word that warns us not to use a vain repetition of words because the pagans do it.

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. (Mat 6:7-8)

The main purpose of Lectio is to bring you into a state of meditative stillness and a trance-like mindset. This is very dangerous because it opens you up to demonic influences.

Hi all, OK a bit confused with the Lectio bit. Sometimes when I read the word, a particular part of the scripture that addresses a situation in my life is suddenly illuminated and I then receive guidance or wisdom with re: same. Isn't 'getting' a 'word or scripture that speaks to us' ie our situations the way God speaks to us through His word

AMEN DEAR BROTHER IN CHRIST, AMEN!

Thomas Lessing wrote:

God provides only one way acceptable to Him to enter into his presence.

Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.(Heb 10:19-22)

Anyone who practices a technique (any form of meditation, stillness, labyrinth walking, visualization) to enter into the presence of God, does not know Him and is lost. They need to repent.
