Matt 24:4-5 Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone Mislead you, for MANY will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive MANY.”
Matt 7:21-23 Jesus warns, “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the WILL OF MY FATHER in Heaven will enter. On Judgment Day MANY will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We PROPHESIED IN YOUR NAME and Cast out demons in your Name and Performed many Miracles in your Name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who BREAK GOD’S LAWS.”

The Apostle Paul named names of 8 false teachers during his time. He named then for the protection of the church. Here is the list:
1) Phygellus – 2 Tim 1:15 – Paul said, “This you know, that all those in Asia have TURNED AWAY FROM ME, among whom are PHYGELLUS and Hermogenes.”
2) Hermogenes – 2 Tim 1:15 Paul said, “This you know, that all those in Asia have TURNED AWAY FROM ME, among whom are Phygellus and HEMOGENES.”
3) Hymenaeus 2 Tim 2:17 Paul warns, “And their MESSAGE will SPREAD LIKE CANCER. HYMENAEUS and Philetus are of this sort..”
4) Philetus – 2 Tim 2:17 Paul warns, “And their MESSAGE will SPREAD LIKE CANCER. Hymenaeus and PHILETUS are of this sort..”
5) Jannes – 2 Tim 3:8 Paul warns, “Now as JANNES and Jambres RESISTED Moses, so do these also RESIST THE TRUTH: MEN OF CORRUPT MINDS, DISAPPROVED concerning the FAITH..”

I also agree that every name on that list is a false teacher, except i was not aware that Beth Moore was. What does she believe? I had heard that she was into some sort of contemplative mysticism,however i have not heard her speak on any of that. Is she a word/faith teacher? One at the top of the list today is c peter wagner who has repackaged the cult of the latter day rain and calls it the NAR/new apostolic reformation movement. All a part of the third wave/shepharding/covering movements, the kansas city prophets , joels army, manifest sons of God ect. Heresies.Steve Shults with his elijah list is the machine that keeps them all in touch with one another and propagating their so called “word from God’

Sylesa, Beth Moore is a very dangerous false teacher. This may surprise some because she comes across as so passionate but she mixes truth and error. She is ecumenical and shares podiums with false teachers.
If you do some research there are some good articles online that can help you understand what is wrong with her teaching. She is clever and I don’t doubt her sincerity for a moment, but she is deceived.

Also , i would like to say that i am glad to see that you have discerment on many of these issues affecting the church and “christianity”. Many people do not have discernment unfortunetly.

Really Eric…so error can continue and Christ’s redeeming work can miss a few souls and many will be lead astray and end up in hell. Is this what you call love…we must turn a blind eye and let lies and distortion reap havoc.
In case you are not aware of it there is a huge battle out there…the enemy is already in the camp.

Am surely at loss here. Yes, I have heard a lot about several of the personalities indicated as false prophets but this is the longest list I have ever seen and am really shocked. Some of the names are so respected as far as sound Bible doctrine is concerned. Now as others have already pointed out, it would have been better to point out also who you think are true prophets. I would also love if (as you have rightly said about the Bible to be the only measuring standard) you can explain for each personality (Lord have mercy, there are many!!) the shortfalls/teachings/characters etc in line to sound Bible teaching that qualify them to be false teachers/prophets.

This list is short, there are hundreds of thousands more. I tell you what, why don’t you go and google for yourself their false teachings, why must I do everything for everyone. Go do some work and search for the truth yourself. Surely the Holy Spirit in you will warn you who is good and bad? He warns all genuine Christians and he all gives all of us the same message – He never contradicts Himself.

Oie Vey…so, thank you, (I think…I fear my brain’s going to explode from the vast information you share from your research and my feverent pitch to try to retain it all at once…lol) Last night, I was looking up Kim Clement..someone mentioned yesterday that he had prophesied about the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami back in 2006…and I “stumbled” (more like Lord intervened…thank you Lord) upon your site.
The Lord’s been opening my eyes more and more these days, giving me checks in my spirit on self proclaimed prophets, tongues, t.v. evangelist, tithing, the church and other things that I seem to call into question lately. The Scriptures you share really help guide me where to look…I’m a recovering Word “lazy-lou“, as in the first 5 years of following Christ I rarely got into the Word…not proud, just being honest here. But as of the last year I crave to be immersed in the Word. Just a thought, maybe WHY my eyes are opening??
I wanted to get your thoughts… I came across a self proclaimed prophetess in a women’s group last year. I didn’t know she was calling herself a prophet at the time, but after hearing her spew false doctrine to a woman there, telling this wounded woman she first had to ask permission from her abusive, pornographic seeking husband before she could “deny” him (keeping it PG here) or to fast to hear from God, myself and another woman spoke against that. THEN, this “prophetess” came after me, “calling me out” later that night, saying I‘d been in “hiding“ (represented by where I was sitting in the room apparently) She was right in part, I had been “hiding” in low self esteem and feeling less than in my Christian walk and it was time to come out and stand in the truth that I am a daughter of the Almighty God, get in the Word and proclaim the Truth. I allowed her to pray for me. I look back and wonder why I did and it was the first time I “spoke in tongues“ as she whispered prayers in my ear. A part of me thought it was a little weird, but it was also a little familiar, the language. BUT…
Later in the year this same group did a foot washing ceremony and communion, led by this same woman, who donned a white robe, shared she was told to make and given specific instructions from the Lord how to do so and declared she was a prophetess… I about laughed. Weird thing is I’d never come across someone calling themselves a prophet before and can’t say I’d really thought much about it, but I had a very distinct uneasy feeling inside. At a later meeting, while everyone was in prayer, I “felt” a need to look up. I immediately saw this ‘prophetess” looking around and I got the same uneasy feeling…. I then wondered about she prayed for me…..I wonder now WHAT she prayed for…her intent….and WHAT was the language that came forth from me….
So thank you for being here, for people like me, reminding us to keep our eyes, ears and hearts open, look only to the Word for truth, seek it out for ourselves, listen to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and call on wise counsel for confirmation. I get a little sad reading your sometimes brutal comments, but I appreciate you nonetheless. You’re definitely gifted with helping your brethren. Thank You for putting yourself out there. I chuckle when Burning Lamp posts after you and it’s a softer tone…but no less poignant. Almost like a good (gentler) cop and bad (In yo face!) cop team for Truth. 🙂 Ok, so putting on my bullet proof vest, waiting for a reply….you have a mighty way with words (and Truth) sister…bracing myself!!

Do you know how many times I am insulted on a daily basis? Approximately 10 times a day, sometimes more. Insulted by evil spirits not people, really, because we fight against evil not flesh. I know that the thoughts produced by the person typing the message is demonic because I have the gift of discernment of good and evil, and I can will tell you this now; I will NOT entertain a demonic spirit. Jesus never did, the disciples never did, and nor will I.
Now does it not sadden you as to how people speak to me? No one seems to ever feel sorry for me and what I have to put up with. (excluding a few people). This amazes me.
Does it not sadden you because all those people are deceived and are possibly lost forever, going to hell?
Call me what you want, read into my comments what you want and read them however you choose to read them; And I can tell you know you are choosing to read a tone that is not there. If I quit this blog because of all the insults I’ve received in the comments section, Satan’s job would be done. But Jesus chose me to go on this tough mission because I seem to have a really thick skin, most of the time.
You go read in scripture where Jesus or the disciples told people to repent, or had to tell people they were sinning or on the wrong path. No where was it a box of chocolates. BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT WE FIGHT PRINCIPALITIES OF EVIL.

There are so many crazy things going on in the “church” today !I don’t have a ministry in this area, but i do notice that people do not want to be told that the practices of their church or somebody from TBN ect, ect, is not from God! Sometimes i read the posts and chuckle , but then ,I don’t have to be the brunt of it as you do . Nevertheless, keep up the good work!

What does Josehh Prince teach? I see him on the list. I have briefly seen and heard him on television and i have one of his books called Destined to Reign (i have not read it yet) because my previous pastor a few years ago recemended it to the congregation. I have not really paid attention to him and don’t really hnow anything about him or what he teaches or believes. Thanks.

Sylesa, Joseph Prince is BAD NEWS. He is wealth and health and manages to weave that into truth and it goes under the radar unless one’s frequencies are tuned high. 🙂
But he is a TBN darling so…….they don’t like ANYONE who teaches sound doctrine!!
There is much more that I can say, but if you put his name into a search engine it will bring up some specifics on his teachings.
I would keep the book but mark it up exposing the errors and label it CLEARLY that it is for research purposes ONLY.

Thank you for the advise on Joseph Prince, that is such a good idea—marking the error in the book. Then if any of my friends or family members borrow them they will see the notations instead of being reinforced with false teaching. I have a few joyce Meyer that i never read either, i now know she is false and for that reason have not read her books, but now eventually i will read them and impliment your advise with her books also.
I SOOOOO hate to throw away a book! I love books! I know that some of my books in my library are from false teachers but can’t bring myself to throw them away! I now am VERY careful whos’ books i buy! Now that my eyes are open to all these false teachers/teachings. I don’t want to help add to the false teachers spreading their doctrine by buying their books, or waste money on them for that matter.
I am glad that i found this website Burning Lamp! I wholeheartedly support this blog(even tho we disagree on a couple things, nothing essential)!
The Lord opened my eyes to many things in the preceding months before i stumbled upon this blog. I can’t tell you my confusion over some teachings and goings on in the church. I desperately sought the Lord to teach me and to help me and to make my heart willing to see and obey the truth.God has and is doing that in me. I was amazed and very happy when i came across this blog which reinforced the things that God has been showing me!! Amazed because we live in a very “tolerant” world and here was a blog openly naming names of false teachers! And so it should be–Paul did! But I have found in my own experience, people don’t appreciate that. I have some friends that listen to ALL these false teachers and i keep quiet and don’t openly critisize the teachers but when opportunity comes up in conversation , i sometimes will speak the truth of the scriptures — in small doses, because i am very sensitive that people don’t like to hear such things. I wonder why? I have found that most people don’t know the scriptures.
I am so grateful and thankful for this blog and for Deborah and for you and all the others on this blog that stand for truth fearlessly, when it is not popular.
I have not been blessed with a thick skin by nature, but i have learned to seperate what is my issue and what is another persons issue and not take it to my heart when it is not my issue.The lord is helping me to have a thicker skin i guess!
That is a good balance — to have thick skin , but still able to have compassion! I woild like to be that way.

I often wonder how long the Lord will continue to tolerate His Son and His Word to be manipulated and maligned.
There is one church that did a series of sermons called “Whoopee Cushion” and used sayings connected with flatuance. That is a new low.
Man will always try to Christianize the things of the world whether they be pagan or mystical or human origin. From yoga to pole dancing like they do in the strip clubs. Sick!!!
