Great question. Hope he answers. :smile: My greatest concern is that Pastor Andy's answer in itself is a kind of auto-suggestion, which in turn is demonic. It suggests that every time something goes wrong in my life, I say to myself, "This is an attack of the devil because I was baptised or dunked under water" -"en was hy reg."

Tom, ter verduideliking. Wat die leraar[Andy] bedoel het is net wat hy gesê het. Party dopelinge sien die doop as iets heiligs; dit is nie so nie – jy is nie daarna in ander dimensie nie .Die simboliek van die onderdompeling is dit wat ek genoem het. Soos genoem, die NT beskryf genoeg getuienis oor die doop en dit is genoeg vir my om dit te verstaan.

A bit of history. When Warren first published ‘Purpose Driven Life'[ I think it was after ‘Purpose Driven Church], I was given the book by my son. Everyone[many] jumped on the ‘Warren’-wagon at the time. I started reading the book but just could not make progress with it. I saw the many translations and paraphrases Warren used to make his points. To me this was a no-no; I never finished the book. At that time many churches used the book for ‘Bible’ study programs. Through ‘Discernment Ministries’ I received a lot of material discerning Warren’s books and teachings. I started a ministry putting packages of material together, discussing it with, and handing it to pastors and dominees, warning them about the dangers of Warren’s teachings – all to no avail. Not a single word from them; they just carried on with their ‘programs’.
So, what is my point. One can be judged by the company you keep; if John Piper cannot shake the Warren – ‘dust from his feet’, how can discerning evangelicals trust him and his many teachings?
Of the many apostate teachings of our day the old saying is applicable: ‘If it is new, it is not true – If it is true, it is not new’.

Wat op aarde het die leraar bedoel toe hy gesê het, “Remember Deon, there is nothing holy about the bath. ”Heilig” beteken tog seer sekerlik om iets of iemand aan die Here te wei of te berei.

Genade Tom. Die doop het niks te doen met jou redding nie. Vir my[en baie ander] is dit slegs ‘n beleidenis van my sterwe aan die self [saam met Christus sterf] en saam met hom opstaan – ‘n getuienis voor God se gemeente.[jy het nie ge-“arive’ nie]. My groei as gelowige het toegeneem deur baie stampe en stote[beproewinge]. Die leraar wie my gedoop het, het destyds vir my gesê: “Remember Deon, there is nothing holy about the bath. You will find that the enemy will attack you now more than ever” – en was hy reg! Die pad waardeur ek is was rof, maar ek is daardeur – genade op genade. ‘n Vriend het my per geleentheid gevra – “hoe verwerk jy dit alles”. My antwoord – “kyk ‘op’ my broer, kyk ‘op’.
In ons gemeente is daar talle wie nie gedoop is nie – pragtige kinders van die Here. Dit maak nie van hulle tweedeklas lede van die ecclesia nie.
Ek wil hoegenaamd nie debat voer oor ‘doop’ al dan nie. Die gebeure vervat in ons NT is voldoende vir my.
