Somark Technologies use an applicator to inject electronic e-ink (RFID ink) under the skin in an invisible bar-code tattoo. It takes two seconds to apply, and can be scanned up to ten feet away, providing the ID of the ‘animal’ in question, and a vast database of further info re the animal in question can then be retrieved from remote databases.

Another advantage of this technology (currently being promoted for livestock tracking) is that the animal can be tatoo-ed at birth, and the barcode stretches with the skin, as the animal grows.
