Today I will give a review of Heaven is for Real – A Little Boys Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back. I went to a local Christian book store called CUM Books stores here in South Africa to find hundreds of copies of this book stacked under the ‘Best Selling’ section. I picked one up and thought to myself, “Satan’s smart, he is now using little kids to sell his story.”
To give a brief summary of the story, little Colton aged 4, complains of stomach pains and runs a high fever. His parents, Todd and Sonja Burpo take him to a hospital where the doctor fails to diagnose the problem. The little boy is now deteriorating to such an extent that they remove him out of the hospital and take him to another one where he is diagnosed for a burst appendix. Rushed into surgery, little Colton while on the surgery table experiences something many people never do. He apparently goes to Heaven and meets Jesus. After he is home he starts to recount his story to his parents, as best as a 4 year old can, of his trip to Heaven and back.
There have been many books written by many people on their supposed trips of Heaven where they meet a ‘Jesus’ type person. One being Choo Thomas’ “Heaven is so Real” and then Don Piper’s “90 Minutes in Heaven”, who just happens to endorse Heaven is For Real. In the front of the book on the ‘Praise for Heaven is For Real’ pages, there are praises from 12 different people telling you why you should by this book, all reasoning as to why Colton’s story is just as good as that of the bible, and why you should “allow a little child to lead you.” – Don Piper, Speaker and Author, 90 Minutes in Heaven
Frightening expectations of unprecedented natural disasters and apocalyptic judgements that would strike the world in 2011 had been stirred up in different quarters, but nothing happened! We are now in 2012, and for this year even more prophecies of doom alluding to the destruction or near-destruction of all life on earth have been uttered.
As far as 2011 is concerned, there were the predictions of Harold Camping of Family Radio in California that the rapture of believers would occur on 21st May 2011, followed by five months of divine judgements, up to 21st October 2011, during which virtually all life on earth would have been exterminated. Camping wrote a book titled, The Doomsday Code.
Monster Energy has taken off like hot cakes, you see people wearing their branded clothing in the malls. Monster Energy endorses racing teams; if it’s fast and it’s fun, they will endorse it. I always looked on in amazement as to what on earth their logo meant because it did not look good.
You will be shocked, just as I was to realised that the Monster logo is a ‘type‘ of a Mark of a Beast. I compared the 3 lines that appear to make up the letter M (note the lines in the Monster logo are not joined together) to the Hebrew alphabet and this is what I discovered; the Hebrew letter Vav (which has a numerical value of 6) was a match.
Unbelievable as it sounds, one of the latest New (old) Age temptations to confront both the world and the church is to encourage spiritual and religious seekers to talk with the dead. In this maneuver we can see the adversary’s ploy is to further open the door to a seducing spirit world (1Timothy 4:1). Demonic spirits that impersonate deceased loved ones will attempt to convey “new understandings” and “new revelations” that will contribute to a “new worldview.” This will ultimately lead to a deceptively contrived world peace. This deceptive “peace” plan was warned about in the Bible (Daniel 8:25, Matthew 24:3-5, 1 Thessalonians 5:3, 1 Tim 4:1, 1 John 4:1, Revelation 13, etc.).
This temptation to talk and listen to the dead has already entered the church. And it is entering through mainstream evangelical doorways. Pastor Steve Berger and his wife Sarah have written a book entitled Have Heart: bridging the gulf between heaven and earth. In this book they describe how their recently deceased son, Josiah, has appeared to them and to members of their church in a variety of ways.

Doesn’t the Bible refer in a number of places to wine and strong drink? Don’t we quite often find people drinking alcohol in the Bible? Can’t we assume, then, that Scripture generally does not condemn drinking alcoholic liquor?
It’s true that we often find people drinking alcohol in the Bible and that Scripture speaks of alcoholic beverages, but we need to be careful not to read too much into a superficial look at such texts. When our English Old Testaments refer to alcohol, they generally use the words wine or strong drink. So any examination of the Old Testament’s attitude toward alcohol must take into account the different Hebrew words translated into these two English terms.
The term strong drink presents no major translation problems because only one Hebrew word, shekar, lies behind it. But even so, the translation strong drink is more general than it ought to be. Modern readers may well think of strong drink as distilled liquor. But that is not what the Bible means by the term shekar….
Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Community Church in Lake Forest, California often finds himself at the center of controversy for joining hands with those of questionable doctrine and practice. One of the more surprising partnerships in recent years is his attachment to Calvinism and not just any Calvinism but what he cleverly calls “Kuyper Calvinism.” His switch to Calvinism has made for some interesting bedfellows as people on both sides of the issue are now related to one another and trying to manage their new found “cousins” in their family.

Rick Warren’s shift to Calvinism was officially announced in 2007 when he was accepted into the membership of Together for the Gospel (T4G), a Calvinist organization that began with conservative Calvinists Ligon Duncan, Mark Dever, Al Mohler and C. J. Mahaney for the purpose of promoting Calvinism’s core “Doctrines of Grace” (aka TULIP). Warren released a statement explaining his association with T4G shortly after his acceptance saying, “I know this is going to be difficult for many to accept, but in the famous words of Martin Luther ‘My conscience is captive to the word of God!’ I look forward to building relationships with those with whom I have disagreed for so long. I am excited to now be a part of the Together for the Gospel team.” While this was Rick Warren’s “coming out” event, it’s not his first mention of Calvinism. He’s apparently held to the sovereign predestining purposes of God for some time.
Christians should be able to test all doctrine in creeds, sermons, books, articles, as well as statements made during discussions, to determine if they are a true reflection of Scriptural truth: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Every religious message has a spiritual dimension to it – either the Spirit of truth who wants to guide us into all truth (John 16:13), or Satan’s spirit of error who is intent on deceiving as many people as possible, also within churches (1 John 4:6; 2 Pet. 2:1-2).
The testing is done by carefully comparing a particular statement or message with biblical pronouncements to determine its authenticity. If this is not done, false teachings will naively be accepted by those who are ignorant of what the Bible teaches (cf. 2 Cor. 11:3-4). Rather follow the example of the Berean Jews who welcomed Paul’s message with great eagerness but examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul had said was true (Acts 17:11). Their enthusiasm for the gospel, as well as their high regard for the apostle, did not preclude them from critically examining Paul’s message to ensure that what they believed was in full agreement with God’s Word.
The problem is that Lordship Salvation confuses the ROOT of a believer's faith, i.e., faith in Christ (Romans 4:5), with the FRUIT of that faith, i.e., good works (James 2:18). The ROOT should bring forth the FRUIT; but the FRUIT cannot come before the ROOT. DO you understand the difference? Lordship Salvationists are demanding the FRUIT as a prerequisite to salvation. They are putting the cart before the horse.

The above passage of Scripture is speaking about the Apostle Peter. Peter sinned by denying Jesus. Yet, Peter was a born-again believer. King David was a Christian; yet he conspired to have a man killed, to cover up an unwanted pregnancy, from an adulterous affair with that man’s wife. Abraham and Sara doubted God. Moses was a murderer. Samson went with a harlot. Jacob was a thief. Jonah ran from God. Noah got drunk. Isaiah was a man of unclean lips. These were God’s best and brightest.
Lot was a worldly believer. Yet, 2nd Peter 2:7 calls Lot a “just” man. The Lordship Salvation crowd would have considered all of these men unsaved. Yet, we see they were saved.
This subject needs to [be] preached about on a regular basis, because the damnable heresy of LORDSHIP SALVATION has infiltrated our churches, and is leading multitudes into Hell.

It was probably one of the most shocking programs ever to hit the TV airwaves in South Africa. It showed in graphical detail how South African sangomas (witchdoctors) are initiated into the occult practice of communicating with their dead ancestors. Both are covered with a single animal skin that serves as a blanket. The focal point in the ceremony is the goat because it allegedly functions as a medium through which the ancestral spirits communicate their wishes. The candidate must then simulate sex with the goat. If the goat reacts in a positive way, so to speak, it is a sign that the ancestors are pleased with the candidate and that she may proceed to the next part of the ceremony. The goat’s jugular vein is then slit and while a gush of blood spurts out freely the candidate puts her mouth to the gaping wound and starts to drink the blood.
