“Brian McLaren’s latest book, A New Kind of Christianity: Ten Questions That Are Transforming the Faith, is two steps forward in terms of clarity and ten steps backward in terms of orthodoxy. A New Kind of Christianity, more than any previous McLaren project, provides a forceful account of what the emergent leader believes and why.” ♦ –Christianity and McLarenism (1)–
“But then in the middle of the book there is a whole lot of bad cop, so much so that it is hard to really believe he thinks evangelical theology is anything other than oppressive barbarism. People who read Genesis in the traditional way have been “brainwashed.” The God of evangelicalism is the “dread cosmic dictator of the six-line Greco-Roman framework” (48). This deity—the one that saves sinners from the fall and punishes unbelievers in hell—“is an idol, a damnable idol” (65). We have a “tribal and violent God, a rather flattened view of Jesus, and a domesticated understanding of the gospel” (161). We worship an “ugly” God (102), McLaren explains, and our exclusivism makes him “want to cry, groan, or scream” (223).” ♦ –Christianity and McLarenism (2)–

“A question often heard amongst Christians is “Where shall we go? We have nowhere to go. Our church has taken a wrong turn into contemplative spirituality. Sound biblical doctrines and teachings have been replaced by centering or contemplative prayer, labyrinth walks, deep silent meditation, and retraits. Shall we stay or shall we leave our church?”” ♦ –To stay put or not to stay put: That is the question–

“I wasn’t prepared for what I was about to hear the evening of November 3. My alma mater, Bethel University in St. Paul, MN, sponsored an Interreligious Symposium promoting some kind of “common ground” between Buddhism and Christianity. One would think if a Christian had an ounce of discernment, they would deduce that Christianity has nothing to do with Buddhism and such unions are playing with fire.” ♦ –When Students Are Left for the Wolves By Jan Markell–
“A not-so-funny thing happened on the way to the 21st century. In the late 20th century, certain leaders came out stating that we needed a “new way of doing church.” That old time religion wasn’t good enough. So in came new gimmicks replacing the solid gospel. We have seen the rise of the “seeker-sensitive” church movement that offends no one. The “religious left” has become more prominent promoting their social gospel. I need some info in C S Lewis book called Screwtape letters. Can you help perhaps.I really know nothing about him. Maybe a site that would confirm if this book is safe for Christians.

Will come back to you on this soon. My 3G connection is as volitile as an Emergent blog. I have found 1 spot where I can sit where I get great reception. The problem is the spot to sit is not comfortable at all.

THIS EMAIL RECEIVED FROM MY SOURCE WHERE I POSTED NEWS FLASH FROM. URGENT MESSAGE BELOW PLEASE READ.
Dear Friends and Family, 7 7 February 2010
The News Flash that I sent out on 3 February 2010 contained an article under the heading” Rockefeller Banking company announces plans to fund the Third Temple!” .
My source was CNN Money and according to me it was credeable.
This article seem to be fake and planted deliberately.
Rabbi Chaim Richman of the Temple Institute in Jerusalem issued an statement in Arutz Sheva (Israel`s main Newspaper) that the article was not true and that there is no ties between them and the group mentioned in the article.
I can only hope my contribution did not cause harm.
I have learnt a lesson through this incident not to take for truth any news item, even if it comes from a “reputable” organisation.
My appologies for this.
Blessings,
Basie Joubert

Just had to let you know, we went to get those dvd’s you advised me to get, from Sarel yesterday.
Busy working through them. Thank for pointing out their importance !!!

Thanks for the link. I just read it and it is exactly the question we started asking ourselves 4 months ago.
Deborah
Can Bobs Your-Anchor perhaps put the formula, for doing news posts back at the bottom of news page. It helps allot to quickly do posts.
:-)

Awesome. Everyone should see them. (<— Notice to everyone)
I was discussing with my hubby the other day that 'nearly' everyone has the internet and a library with info that boggles the mind and yet people still wont do their own research. They will argue with you and argue; but tell them to go check it out for themselves and oh boy… never tell anyone to research for themselves – that would be just asking way to much. Should I even venture onto the question of reading, studying and searching the Bible.
My the crux of my question was, how did they find my blog in the first place? What where they looking for? sighs… bit of a joke eh.
Anyhow news update: It’s blazing hot, sea is freezing cold (for some very unknown reason), pool is hot, monkeys stole my lunch – don’t for a second think those little babies are just there to look all cute; it’s a conspiracy – human shields sent onto the front line by the parents to cause a distraction. I’m onto them.
Elmarie
Bobs apologises profusely and will have it up shortly. ;)
Deborah
I agree with you.
Just keep up the good work!!!
Happy hunting finding your lunch lol lol lol ha ha Enjoy the holiday.

This then clears up and brings closure on this.

Dear Friends and Family, 8February2010
As follow up of the “Supriem Rockefeller/ Temple” article the following reaction from Jerusalem.
——————————————————————————–
Temple Institute Denies “Supriem Rockefeller” Links
Reported: 13:20 PM (IsraelNN.com)
In response to wide-spread reports that the Temple Institute of Jerusalem has linked up with “Supriem David Rockefeller” in a scheme to raise funds for the “rebuilding of the Third Temple,” the Temple Institute has issued the following disclaimer:
“The Temple Institute strongly protests the use of its name and that of Rabbi Chaim Richman in a series of fraudulent press releases and advertising claims that are now circulating on the Internet.
“The Temple Institute has no relationship with Kinti Mining Group, “Supriem David Rockefeller,” Frank Love, or the “Temple Now Project.” Their claims that they “will be raising funds to go towards building the third Temple in Jerusalem in strict co-ordinance with the Temple Institute and Rabbi Hiam Richman [sp]” are false and malicious, and their apparent intentions are to take advantage of the Temple Institute’s sincere supporters and rob them of funds. The Temple Institute advises its friends and supporters to avoid being taken in by this scam. We hereby reiterate and reassure our friends and supporters that these groups and individuals are not authorized to represent the Institute, speak in its name, or to solicit or collect funds designated for the Holy Temple, in any manner whatsoever.”

Above is so Sad.
Indeed!
Hi Deborah
Are you back. I need to ask you something via email.
Elmarie
I am back, finally. Yeah you can send the email. Just gimme a while to check ok.
Elmarie
I can’t seem to find your comment on CS Lewis screw tape letters. I might have accidentally deleted it when copying the news to the article above. Anyhow here is a bit of an answer for you.
I have no idea how people can quote CS Lewis as being Christian. Boggles my mind. In fact he was quite a bit pantheistic in his thinking.
Deborah
Thanks for your reply. Yes had an idea C S Lewis is of the rails. Just the title made me think. Mmmm someone started a Face book page using the book title. I got invite from friend to join group. Anyhow I just ignored the invite. The same day !!! I walked into cum bookstore and here the book was glaring at me from the shelve….ha ha. I never walk into cum books, don’t like what they sell and promote. I read the cover page and just knew this is nonsense. How does one deal with a friend whom say they are Christian and go on bumping their head if you warn them not to read such nonsense.
I will send you email.
My comment on CSL is 1st one at the top.
Elmarie
I don’t know. I wish I did. Cos then I would solve my family problem with this miraculous fix. Unfortunately there ain’t one. God knows each persons heart. All He told us to do was tell people about His message of Salvation, His Son Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us and to repent and change our wicked ways – He also told us we will be hated because we love Him and there is nothing we can do about it but leave it in His hands.
I was wondering the other night… “as in the days of Noah”. People say, ‘oh but the world as it is today is no where like what it was like in the days of Noah’. Hmm…. 1) how do they know? 2) what formula are they using to compare how evil the days of Noah were in comparison to today? 3) Based on what I see on this blog and the people commenting I would say we are worse.
I am at the moment working on the Chuck Missler article – it’s taking me a while to compile (lack of internet has not helped my situation). The thing is I think I am the first one to be saying anything about what I am going to say about Chuck Missler. So while writing my article I am also building my bunker preparing for the bombardment of incoming air to surface missile attacks haha.
Debora
I agree with you.We can only leave it all in His hands as you say.
I’m thinking of a old saying in Afrikaans ‘Jy kan n perd tot by die water bring, maar jy kan hom nie maak water drink nie” It remains hard for us as mere humans to see the horse is not going to make it. We have to somehow leave the horse to his own to come to realise what he will loose, his life or put his head to the water. :-)
Looking forward to CM article. Im sure it will be what needs to be said.
Wow whatalot of emails to read. It will take you looong time.

Just a sugestion. I just got this idea. How about a news page with only true positive news on Christianity. It will be a huge challenge though.
That is a very good idea. And indeed a challenge. You have a few thinks to factor into what to look for: are the christians they speak of really christian or catholic….and yeh…thats about it lol.
Elmarie

I get your point. My point exactly you see, how can I say this. My feeling it will be very, very difficult to find news in that category !! But i’m sure we can and will find that little piece of positive news, It will just take a bit longer…..
Elmarie
I think the only good news we will find is when we just preach the gospel of Jesus Christ outright. Good news for us, bad news for those who don’t want to hear it.
But It would be interesting to see if some genuine Christian news can be found.

ORANGE, Calif. – The wife of televangelist Benny Hinn has filed for divorce from the high-profile pastor, whose reputation as an advocate of prosperity gospel has attracted millions of followers and criticism from lawmakers and watchdog groups over his lavish lifestyle.
Suzanne Hinn filed the papers in Orange County Superior Court on Feb. 1, citing irreconcilable differences, after more than 30 years of marriage. The papers note the two separated on Jan. 26 and that Hinn has been living in Dana Point, a wealthy coastal community in southern Orange County.
“Pastor Benny Hinn and his immediate family were shocked and saddened to learn of this news without any previous notice,” Benny Hinn Ministries said Thursday in a statement. “Although Pastor Hinn has faithfully endeavored to bring healing to their relationship, those efforts failed and were met with the petition for divorce that was filed without notice.”

““Only two things are certain: the Universe and human stupidity; and I’m not certain about the Universe”– Albert Einstein (1879-1955).I’m certain about the stupidity of man because the Bible tells us we are all under sin, Furthermore the Bible teaches there are fools- when a person has said in his heart there is no God (cited twice Psalm 14:1; Psalm 53:1). That’s God’s position on the so called intellectuals of scientism. Einstein is considered one of the smartest humans to have lived- he believed there is something beyond us, that we would call God, he didn’t accept a personal god but one more in line with theosophy. “Why believe in Atheism when they offer no proof (they have no proof because they cannot obtain proof). If Atheists would be honest with their position they can only admit they are agnostic, a non-theist who is still seeking proof of God’s existence. But an atheist can only be categorized as a dishonest agnostic who gave up his search. A true agnostic would hold a view of there being insufficient evidence but is still open to the possibility of obtaining evidence to be self convinced. An authentic agnostic will find himself in the middle, able to criticize both the views of the theist and the atheist equally for their fixed position. There are agnostics that have already convinced themselves that neither he nor anyone else can obtain evidence of the existence or the non-existence of God. The difference of an atheist from an agnostic is that an atheist takes the position that he has obtained full knowledge (even though he is not), he is ABSOLUELY certain by the evidence (at least in his own mind) there is no God.” ♦ –pt.2 Why–

Elmarie – Ah I need to open a news desk for March. It’s coming. Just keep posting em here and I will move them to the march post I am quite tired today, so I wont be as active. Yesterday I was knocked for a 6, today is a 4.
Debs- Ok. You just take it easy eh.
My point here is that this book is a first for me on this type of subject.
I feel it is important to know of.
Elmarie, sadly the hurt always comes from the “Christians”. Just the other night I had a true feeling of how Christ must feel when he says “when he returns will he himself find faith.” I cried and said “Oh Lord, please watch over me that I may be found with faith and pleasing to you”
Don”t worry what people think of you, worry what Christ thinks. Time is short and I have stopped keeping my mouth shut. Call me what you wish just don’t take keep giving me the truth. Gods truth.
This morning on TBN Benny Hinn said that Billy Graham will die soon and when he dies its going to be a sign that there will follow the greatest rival the world has ever seen. Talk about becoming quiet. My hubby and I said so quietly and knew that the church is in trouble. What rubbish that man talks.
He spoke of a city in America that will have such devastation that the whole of America will come back to GOD. Oh really, why weren’t they ever close!!!!!!!!
I can tell you, that we will see many more earthquakes, but I read that in Gods word.
Elmarie,I want to encourage you to do what you need to do in the spirit and when you do check your motives.
Thank you for your time and your effort. This blog has helped my hubby and I and its great to know we have people like you and Debbie who send out the alarm and confirm what we have felt for a long time.
We have no fellowship other than a few who gather at our home but they have just left the Church of England fellowship and much work and prayer is needed with them.
After every Sunday we say Mmmmmmmm I wonder if they will be back. And yes they return more eager than the previous Sunday.
You are strong, and you are not alone.
Thank you.
Going to read those sites now.
Louise
Thank you!! Know that you are in our prayers. Also keep doing what you are with the little fellowship.
Remember these word by Paul and carry it in you heart always.
2 Timothy 4:6-8 (New International Version)
6For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
