A bit of “LOL” at the “New Way” above. Another one I hear lately is that you’re “falling away” if you don’t agree with all of the above… True but sad and funny at the same time.

  • Amanda

That is not funny. Rev. Zander van der Westhuizen tweeted:

#tekste Sondagaand lees ons iets anders: die “teks” van die alternatiewe afrikaanse musiekbedryf – ‘n nuwe generasie se musiek?
9:40 AM Sep 3rd from web

    Not funny at all.

  • Deborah (Discerning the World)

And I promise I never saw this guys Tweet before I did my picture. I hope Rev Zander van der Westhuizen does not think Ted’s band exists.

By the way, there is a sermon for the alternative afrikanse music industry and new generation of music? Gosh, I wonder what verses they included in the text. Nah must have just been a plain sermon with no biblical reference what-so-ever. Kinda like everything else now-a-days.

Point taken. However, when you’ve taken abuse, been subjected to all forms of manipulation in a dominionist environment, you suffer with many tears. When you manage to break loose, experience true freedom and THEN look back at the kind of shackles that are used by false teachers to bind people up – such as are mentioned above – BELIEVE ME – your eyes are then opened to the phoneyness. It IS terribly sad, angering and not funny – never mind distressing when you are still a victim of it. I wrapped in it for 25 years!

  • Deborah (Discerning the World)

Jen, don’t worry Amanda didn’t mean it like that. By saying ‘that is not funny’ she meant that what I had put in my picture was exactly what is happening and even though ‘funny’ as per my picture – it’s not funny in real life. She knows exactly what you mean don’t worry.

Why are you still a victim of it? Want to share a little? Can you mention the church name or if not the stuff that they are doing?

  • Amanda

Oh, Jen, I am sorry! I was not taking a swipe at your LOL! It was my little attempt at humor in response to and in the same tone as the article. I do apologize. I should have avoided the ambiguity. DTW has explained it better than what I can. Thank you, DTW.

A friend of mine suffered the manipulation you talk about – “demons” driven out and personal false prophecies given to her at a Terry Virgo following church. Awful. I pray that she too will experience freedom and yes, laughter.

Here is a little something for you. I think you might enjoy the humor at The Sacred Sandwich. My personal favorite is Tired of Postmodern “Conversation,” Pastor Tells Congregation to Shut Up

Church officials for Jerusalem’s Bus Stop, a gathering of Christ-followers in Boise, Idaho have reported that Pastor/Head Facilitator Tucker Wynn has taken a leave of absence in the wake of what they describe as Wynn “hitting a major pothole in his faith journey” when he told several people during his sermon to “shut up and read your Bible.”

Jacob Mason, the church’s Supervisor of Holistic Meditation, witnessed the shocking event. “Tuck was facilitating our usual sermon-dialogue time on Sunday when Karen, our director of pottery, tried to express her inner feelings on what God was saying to her. Before she could share her feelings, however, Tuck said that he had a feeling to share, too. He said he felt like she needed to shut up and focus on God’s word instead of her feelings. Needless to say, Karen’s feelings were hurt, so she told him how she felt about his feelings toward her. Then we opened up the discussion for others to express how they felt.”

According to several eyewitnesses, Pastor Wynn then screamed, “What is WRONG with you people!” and fled the building.

Sadly, this was not the first time Wynn had exhibited a drift toward fundamentalism and biblical certainty. Two months earlier, church leaders became concerned when Wynn became noticeably excited about ordering the new ESV Study Bible. “Things just didn’t seem right with Tuck after that,” said tattoo and piercing minister Leslie Moore. “First he started using big words like hermeneutics, exegesis, and perpiscuity. Then he started hammering us on doctrine, of all things. Before we knew it, he was blowing out our candles and turning up the dimmer switch in the sanctuary so we could read the Bible during worship. Talk about a buzz kill. We could barely see the Nooma videos with all the lights on.”

Please go and read the rest. It always makes me LOL.

Bless you’ze :-) and thanks for your posts. True encouragement. As for me – was quite deeply involved in that kind of doctrine & was for a time married into a family – one of whom runs a very big charismatic church. Learnt all about charismatic witchcraft, manipulation and many other things only AFTER I left. One could say it was a “lightbulb moment” and I haven’t stopped searching ever since for truth (Jesus said “seek my face”…)
I have to say I was a VERY angry person at that time and still try to compensate by looking at the laughable side (if you know what I mean).
PS: Must admit this liking I have for satire is a double edged sword for sure – but have to say – I LOLLed at the sheep too! :-)

  • Deborah (Discerning the World)

Well Jen, it’s terribly sad and downright laughable all at the same time. When you are in this mess, you have a cadenza when someone tells you: “DID you JUST hear WHAT that guy SAID?”. When you do wake up you are in shock. Then the recovery phase begins, sometimes with post traumatic stress. Afterwards (could take a year or two or more) you can’t help but laugh at how stupid it all is. Having said that, laughing does not detract us one bit from the severity of the situation cos it’s serious and peoples lives, eternal lives are at stake.

We preach the truth, the Holy Spirit saves people.

You know it’s bad when unbelievers (of various degrees) can see the stupidity in the nonsense these preachers preach yet, ‘Christians’ can’t. ** Note to all out there, I didn’t say unbelievers can see the truth, I said they can see the stupidity, because they have not lost their ability to think and reason after coming home from an Angus Buchan crusade. On the other hand they have lost their ability to think and reason on other matters on the opposite end of the scale.

I laugh all the time Jen. If you have not noticed I keep myself entertained with my own bad brand of comedy. But if I were to tell you that I cry a lot too…well no one believes what I say anyhow lol.

    Jen

There is nothing wrong with being angry. You were hurt, we are human, we feel, we pain, we get angry. It takes time to heal but we seek our healing through Jesus Christ not on our own. Laughter is also not necessarily a cover-up for anger. I am just a naturally funny person (in more ways than one haha). When I was unsaved I was a very angry person, hated the world and it’s contents. Now I love Jesus Christ and love to warn and love to preach the truth. I cry when I see that they don’t want to hear. There is nothing I can do.

Do I get angry? Oh yes. Over passionate, over eager, over extend myself, when, I think if I can just say that one sentence that will make them see the truth. Oh and when someone sets their alarm on their cell phone to 120 decibels and it goes off at 4am in the morning.
